1.0 out of 5 stars One broke after 5 throws
I thought these were great--until one shattered into 3 pieces. I've had these knives for 2 days. I'm throwing at a wood target on a wooden deck, so it's not like I abused the knife. I am returning these, hopefully without a hitch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Quality Thowing Knives - Recommended!, November 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Review of SMALL Gil Hibben "Original Thrower Triple Set". This is a very good, high quality set for those wanting to learn or practice knife throwing. We also have several other Hibben throwers and I have posted comparison a picture in the "Customer Images" section of Hibben Original Thrower Triple Set Lg. Throwing has made a surprisingly enjoyable addition to our workouts and my son and I are actually getting fairly accurate. Here are my observations:

+ Well Balanced; easy to find the balance point
+ Good Weight; heavy, more than enough to stick in a pine board when thrown from 10' - 12'
+ Quality Metal; tips have held up well, despite having hit the floor more than a few times
+ Leather Belt Sheath; good quality and looks good

These are specialty knives that are customized for throwing, and work well for both straight and rotation release. The blades ship sharp and do hold an edge reasonable well. One note, the set I received has holes in the handle area which if different than what is shown in the product picture.

Recommended! I also picked up The Complete Knife Throwing Guide - Third Edition to help us prefect our techniques.

4.0 out of 5 stars Small Hibben Original Pro Thrower Description, August 23, 2010
By
Just clarifying that the are the Small Hibben Original Pro Throwers. Look up the knife dimensions on google, I almost bought these instead of the Large Pro Throwers.

Hibben Throwing Knife Set

Includes three UC454's 6 1/8" overall. 3 1/8" blade which is 5/32" thick in a sheath designed to hold them all. Constructed of one-piece 420 J2 stainless steel. Comes with brown genuine leather belt sheath. The original Hibben thrower is based on Gil's own karate knife design, and also doubles as a functional hunting knife. Perfectly balanced to assure uniform rotation when thrown properly.

I think these are them.
The seller should give a decent description.
It's Great they qualify for Amazon Prime!

I love these knives. They're large and easy to handle with my long fingers, since I'm a novice. They feel very comfortable in my hands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great knives, April 3, 2011

These little knives (I bought the small set) have preformed like champs. I bought them for my brother as a birthday gift, and they are awesome little knives. Very well balanced, they are excellent for throwing and can take quite a bit of a abuse with grace. After a week and a half of being thrown by two novice throwers, into each other, into the ground etc. they have stayed straight and sharp and are still in great condition. The blades have a few nicks from running full speed into the back of the previously thrown knife, but its nothing that cant be fixed by a dremel or knife sharpener. Overal these things are absolutely solid. The case isn't half bad either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Decently Balanced + Very Durable, October 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I recently bought this Gil Hibben product when looking for throwing knives. Your best bet is to use a 6'6 high, 4 foot wide, 4-7/8 of an inch thick (the thicker the better) cork board as a throwing board. There will be none worth the money that are pre-made. Place it somewhere hard (like against a fence, maybe a tree (with rope though), etc.) so that it stays up and it will do marvelously.

These knives are pretty heavy, so if you're looking for the kind that you can whisk through the air and hit the board a millisecond later look for thinner ones. However, the thickness of these blades adds to the amazing durability, not to mention they come already quite sharp with one end sharpened.

I've hit a board the wrong way many times (the side of the knife smashing against the edge of a board), yet nothing happened to these knives other than a slight discoloration. They also make a rather loud "clinging" sound if you don't get it stuck in the board, so beware of your neighbors if you live in the city (1 AM is not an ideal time to practice. No light anyway.).

One of my favorite parts is the sheath. It's a beautiful leather with that usual looking "leathery" brown color. It has three slots, one for each knife. I was worried at first if the knife would puncture through the end, but the sheath is harder on the end and very hard to puncture. Surprisingly, these seem carriable by a belt even due to a loop in the sheath. They are pretty hard to take out if you put them all the way in the shealth, but some WD-40 should fix that well.

The only issue I see is the heaviness of the knife and possibly the way the weight is proportioned. For beginners, it's durable as heck which is what you want. However, it's also a bit harder to throw compared to lighter knives.

If you're a beginner, get the double sided blade ones though. It allows mistake while still having the knife stick in the board.

This review is from: Gil Hibben Original Thrower Triple Knives Set (Sports)
These knives are a great deal, they're made to last. I love the size and weight of these knives. I bought them with the Hibben 8 1/2" competition pro throwers and Both are awesome knives and I'd recommend either for a begginer. Leather sheath is really nice, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have bought 2 sets of these knifes, December 28, 2011
I bought my first set at a knife store over 12 years ago.
I gave them to my son when he turned 15. He has thrown them so much the ends have blunted, but they still stick like new.
I can stick them in a 12" @ 15' most of the time. The balance of these make them very NOOB friendly.
