5.0 out of 5 stars Great!
If you understand that there is a world of music outside of metal, and have a open eyed approach when it comes to music then this is a must have album. Tommy rogers has given a shot at electronica/minimal tech/D&B and has done so extremely well. No its not something you'd expect to hear in a club, and no don't take it too seriously because thats the point! the lyrics are...

Tommy rogers has given a shot at electronica/minimal tech/D&B and has done so extremely well. No its not something you'd expect to hear in a club, and no don't take it too seriously because thats the point! the lyrics are random and silly, the structuring is strange and the general nature of the album is just Tommy having a good time, and i have a good time listening to it.

it has some phat beats, awsome bass, nice synth textures and keyboard work...

BTBAM are amazing! but there is talent outside of them aswell!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't listen to the negative, November 2, 2009
This review is from: Giles (Audio CD)
because the negative reviewers all seem to think, "this isn't BTBAM!" when quite frankly, THAT'S THE FREAKIN' POINT!! Giles is Thomas' side project to release some of his creative energy in a different way than metal. If you seriously buy this thinking that you are going to here metal, than you, sir, are an idiot. This is a very good electronic/techno release and to be perfectly honest (this statement is gonna p*** off a lot of people), I like this better than BTBAM! It is more original and I find myself listening to this far more than I ever listen to BTBAM. Buy this album expecting a fun electronic listen, not another metal band, and you will love it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why?, June 2, 2005
This review is from: Giles (Audio CD)
Review by Cory Rennison:

When lead singer Thomas Giles Rogers Jr. of Between The Buried and Me fame makes a side project, it has to be something amazing, right? Wrong. Right after popping this CD in, I questioned, "What the hell is this?" Part way through the first track, I started thinking, "This will probably get a lot better and this is probably just an intro song." Well, the thing is, it never got any better.

Thomas's aptly titled project Giles has been advertised as something for fans of Nine Inch Nails or an underground version of Radiohead. One might question what's wrong with something like that. There wouldn't be any problem with having influences of those two awesome bands, if there was actually any influence of those bands at all in Giles. The entire album consists of cheap sounding techno beats that could have been made in a half hour on FruityLoops and the vocals sound like a bunch of nu-metal ramblings and are comparable to Jonathon Davis of Korn, which we all know he has some great vocal skills. With lyrics like "Little kitty it's time to be naughty, hop skotch to the closet of raunchy...shake your ass!" it appears that even Thomas himself thinks his project is a joke. I also have to question whether Victory Records actually saw something in this project or if they put out the album simply because Thomas is already in a band that is signed to Victory.

Nobody should expect to hear another Between The Buried and Me within the depths of this CD, but at the same time nobody should expect to hear a good album. This album gets a 2 for a rating only because the artwork is badass. However, the bottom line is, this album is the epitome of weird and you'll either "get it" or you won't; for me it was the latter. A final word of advice to Thomas Rogers Jr.: stick with your good band.

1.0 out of 5 stars my god, June 14, 2005
This review is from: Giles (Audio CD)
I picked up this recording last night at Best Buy. I did so because it was advertised as being similar to Radiohead, The Postal Service, and Fischerspooner. These comparisons are ridiculous at best. The only similarity is that this is electronic music, and I use the term "music" loosely here.

This cd can best be describd as "minimalistic club music" or "comedy album of the year." The "songs" go absolutely nowhere and are very boring. I do hope that this was a joke. I won't bother telling you about how bad the lyrics are as a previous reviewer quoted the best ones on the cd.

Yet another example of how Victory records misleads the public to peddle their garbage. And to think, I picked this over a Blood Brothers album of the same price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Metal Listeners...., July 30, 2007

To start off with, yes, I do love Between the Buried and Me. What I do know, however, is that most metal listeners tend to be extremely strict in the genres of music they listen to. I have fairly diverse taste, and it seems to me that no one here knows what they're talking about. Industrial? Postal Service and Radiohead comparisons? These are not ways to describe this disc. Unfortunately, people getting this album will no doubt be almost strictly the hardcore and metal listeners, and will likely not reach those in the electronic music community. To clear things up, this album's genre fits much more in that of Minimal Techno; yes, its supposed to be simple, its not trying to match the complexity of BTBAM's material. For anyone actually familiar with electronic music, you'll realize this is a pretty solid release, and a fun listen. I could hope the rest of the metal community might be enlightened enough some day to know other genres, though I think this to be a bit idealistic. BTBAM fans: know what you're getting into when you listen to this, and you might actually enjoy it.

Hey funboys. Get a room. For all of you who don't know about GILES, get in the know. Before you do make sure you learn the armwrestle. That dance will make her have to change your pants. If you listen to track 3 and don't envision the greatest fight scene of all time your mother must have kept you warm at night by wrapping your head in a blanket soaked in gin and ether. What am I talking about??? What the hell is GILES talking about???? No one knows and no one cares. Just listen...and pass the ether. If you have any Levitra I'll take that too.

1.0 out of 5 stars garbage, October 15, 2005
This review is from: Giles (Audio CD)
theres not much to say here. the only reason this ever saw the light of day was because tommy is in between the buried and me. i guarantee you not a single label, independent or major, would have touched this project without a name behind it to sell it--its that bad. the lyrics are horrrible, the music is simplistic, and victory is probably laughing all the way to bank. i love between the buried and me but seriously avoid this record. by the way, if you haven't figured it out by now you probably never will, but don't EVER take comparisons of musicians based on the word of the record label. this is called marketing, its how they dupe easily impressionable people into buying records based on your taste. on top of that, victory records is the most aggressive label ever when it comes to laying claims such as those. not to mention, they claimed to have released the hardcore record of the year (comeback kid), the album to put metallica and pantera to rest (a perfect murder), the most anticipated sophomore album ever (silverstein), and the album of the decade (darkest hour). those records may actually be good (sans silverstein), but how silly are those claims? wisen up a little bit otherwise you'll be like the rest of the people who bought a giles album.

1.0 out of 5 stars horrible, August 29, 2005
This review is from: Giles (Audio CD)
I don't know if I've ever been more happy when an album ended. I will never listen to this again. Avoid at all costs, regardless of how much you love BTBAM, electronic, and/or "experimental" music. This is one of the most unoriginal, uninspired, lifeless albums I've ever heard. I would rather listen to Kenny G.

1.0 out of 5 stars industrial + dance = crap, December 6, 2005
This review is from: Giles (Audio CD)
For an album with only 9 songs, this one seemed to go on FOREVER. I love dance rock, but this s*** is soooooo boring. I wouldn't allow YOU to give ME 12 bucks to take this album, let alone purchase it on my own. Complete and utter crap.
