Yet,another 1974 title of the Cosmic Jokers.Although it isn't quite AS good as either the self-titled Cosmic Jokers effort or the 'Galactic Supermarket'(see my reviews of both),it's still decent.Obviously not a krautrock classic,but most fans of such should get something out of this CD reissue.Tracks I dug the most were "Cosmic Courier Bon Chance",the eleven-minute adventurous "Electronic Rock Zeitalter" and "De Magier".Line-up:Klaus Schulze-electronics,Gille Lettman-vocals,Manuel Gottsching-guitar,Jurgen Dollase-keyboards,Dieter Dierks-bass and Harold Grosskopf-drums.Good to take out for a spin occasionally.

As far as I know, Timophy Leary, the famous Harvard Psychology Professor and champion of the use of LSD to enlighten the mind, has only made three recordings with famous musicians. The first one he did in 1970, was YOU CAN BE ANYBODY THIS TIME AROUND. Leary philosophized over a jam by Jimi Hendrix, Buddy miles, Steven Stills and John Sabastian. The result was suppose to be like an "LSD TRIP directed by Mr. Leary himself." It is often thought of as an early attempt at RAP. Leary's second attempt at music, was with the Krautrock band ASH RA TEMPLE, their album SEVEN UP. SO, that led to GILLES ZEITSCHIFF (trans: Timeship). Its a remix album, comprised mostly of the ASH RA TEMPLE album, with a song from TAROT by Wegmuller, one bit from Sergius Golowin's LORD KRISHNA VON GOLOKA, and bits of SCI FI PARTY by "Cosmic Jokers". (Which itself wasnt even really a band. They are individual musicians from various albums Dieter Dierks had produced, in jam sessions at his studio, and released under the name COSMIC JOKERS.) Leary had fled the USA to Switzerland, to hide from drug charges, when he hooked up with these German acid head musicians. On GILLES ZEITSCHIFF, Leary overdubbed some extra trippy messages on some songs, as does Gilles herself. Mostly she tells of how they all met up with Tim Leary in the first place, and how underground & radical their scene is. SO, as an experiment in early remix with the historical and cultural significance of Tim Leary making a final musical recording, I think this is cool CD to own. If nothing else, you will get a taste of some cool, rather unknown Krautrock/german hippie musicians, and their pricey, hard to find albums. Any cultural documents this unique, of the late 60s/early 70s psychedelic, anti-establishment world wide "hippie" movement, are hard to find. Plus, once more the Krautrockers from the 70s started practices like remixing songs, or rapping over remixed music, which were to become commonplace, in 10 years time.
