4.0 out of 5 stars Fusion Power Razor - Surprisingly Improved But Still Expensive, August 17, 2008
This review is from: Gillette Fusion Power Phenom Razor (Health and Beauty)
I have used a regular Fusion razor for a while, and a few months ago I decided to give the Gillette Fusion Power Phenom Razor a try. As far as I can tell, other than cosmetic color differences this design is the same as the Gillette Fusion Power Razor, Phantom, 1 razor and the Gillette Fusion Power Battery Powered Shaving System, 1system. I can definitely understand the criticisms but I have been surprised myself by what a difference a little vibration has made. Suffice it to say I think this shaver and the powered vibration are an improvement over previous models.

While I can understand that some accuse Gillette of a gimmick, I can say that these razor blades definitely do seem to shave closer than the Mach 3 version. So if it's a gimmick, then I too have been fooled.

The vibration definitely seems to help the razor glide over my face more smoothly. As a result it takes less passes to get a complete shave.

Even if you are speptical but just want to find out if the vibration will help you, these are going for less than a dollar more than the manual version, the Gillette Fusion Manual Razor with Replacement Cartridge and Storage Case. So that extra 80 cents is worth finding out if the vibration helps you. If it doesn't just don't use the power feature and this is the same as the manual fusion.

I will have to agree that the small blade on the back of the razor is not effective for shaping. It's just too hard to get it at the perfect angle. Still, this is a minor con, and I'm sure that some people will be able to get the proper technique with it.

The Gillette Fusion Power Replacement Cartridges, 8-Count Package may not be the greatest value out there, but these refills are what you need. These definitely come at a premium price. After using these refills for a while they seem to last longer than my Mach 3 ones did. So I can accept the premium.

The first blade that came with my shaver lasted a while, and my first refill has gone strong for a while too. I think these blades were made to last a LONG time so it's easier to accept the higher cost of refills. Then again, by comparison the cost of the initial shaver and blade seem to be low so it's worth giving it a try.

Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars better razor than the mach 3, February 21, 2009
This review is from: Gillette Fusion Power Phenom Razor (Health and Beauty)
This razor works much better than the mach 3 razors and you get a much cleaner shave with it. The blades seem to last a little longer than the mach 3's by almost 1 1/2 times. I have found that that single blade on the opposite side of the razor head is fairly useless as the angle on it makes it difficult to shave.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Shave Is Better...Worth The Price, July 2, 2008
This review is from: Gillette Fusion Power Phenom Razor (Health and Beauty)
The POWER Fusion is the one to get. The razor its self is inexpensive and it comes with a cartridge. It is amazing. The least amount of irritation with the closest shave ever. The replacement blades for the razor are expensive but guys....it is well worth it....Amazon has the best prices for the replacement blades....the 8pack costs 20 something $ here and at Walgreens or CVS the 8pack of replacement cartridges is over $30.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Upgrade, April 5, 2009

It's a razor. It does its job well. I previously used the Mach3 lineup including both manual and power. The primary advantages of switching to the Fusion are (i) you get the trimmer on the back and (ii) you get a closer shave on the first pass. The disadvantages are (i) fusion blades will not work on the Mach3 handle and (ii) you will pay a bit more for these blades compared to the Mach3. If you shave all the time and you like new technology, I recommend the switch. If you shave only periodically and think all razors are created equal, stick with what you have.

5.0 out of 5 stars A close shave, long lasting, March 27, 2009

I received the razor promptly, and have been using the first blade for 3 weeks now. This is a long time, as previously Mach 3 blades lasted only 7-9 days.

The small blade on the back seems a bit gimicky, and I haven't made much use of it. I am not sure how much use the battery vibration is, as a couple of times I have forgotten to turn it on, and it seems to work just as well.

A great razor, worth the purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, November 19, 2009
This review is from: Gillette Fusion Power Phenom Razor (Health and Beauty)
I bought this razor at amazon...I love it. Shaves close ...real close. I dont feel any pulling of hair like the few bad reviews. Maybe they have very thick beards. Mine is not that heavey...probably a medium thickness. I also only shave in the shower. I save it for last when the beard is hot and softened. It makes a big difference to me. Plus I don't make a mess out of the sink! The only problem I have is paying for the refills. I go through 2 blades a month.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good shave, no nicks, June 11, 2008

Much better than Mach 3 in terms of comfort (I used to get a couple of nicks with Mach 3 too, but did'nt get even a single cut with this). Otherwise I didn't find this much better than either Mach 3 or the Norelco rotary shavers I have - just as good (you might wonder why I am comparing Norelco with these razors - the particular model of Norelco I have seems to work for me as good as a razor but without any cuts; previous models I had were not that good and so I had to depend on a Mach3/atra also for a good shave).

But the single blade at the top is great!

Price of cartridges is outrageous though...

My dad has resisted changing his 40 year old razor and single safety blade but I iniststed on buying him Fusion power when he was visiting last time. I thought the new technology will give him a better shaving experience and make him change his mind till he complained that the the razor actually "pulls" the hair out not cut it!!

I couldn't believe it and tried it on my own. And bou was it painful!

I used warm towel on my face, moisturizer and even a little massage to soften the skin but the moment vibrating Fusion touched my face, I yelped like a puppy.

The darned thing really stings! It pulls at each hair like what a medieval plier would.

In the end I used a "Longs" disposable to get a smoother, better and much quicker shave.
