When the original (manual) Fusion shaving system was introduced in 2005, it was truly a major improvement over any and all previously available razors. It was (and still is) a truly revolutionary, advanced and innovative shaving system that made shaving virtually painless and hastle-free even for men with tough beards and/or sensitive skin. The ProGlide is the latest incarnation of the Fusion and it does offer some advantages over the original Fusion but not nearly enough to justify switching over (especially when considering that the replacement cartridges will be even more expensive than the manual Fusion's!). When I shaved my head with the ProGlide, I honestly noticed NO difference whatsoever (neither better nor worse) than when I shave with the manual Fusion. When shaving my face, I did notice that the ProGlide DID do a slightly better job than the manual Fusion at shaving tricky and hard-to-reach areas (especially the moustache area just below the nostrils and around my Adam's apple) but this is probably because the ProGlide's cartridges are supposedly 15% thinner than the Fusion's. I should also point out that the ProGlide's handle feels more sturdy and offers a (somewhat) tighter grip than the (manual or Power) Fusion's and that the design is more elegant but (of course) beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The Bottom Line: Fusion ProGlide offers some minor improvements over the manual Fusion but nowherenear enough to justify upgrading to an even more expensive product when an already excellent one is available.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only good for frequent shavers, August 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This razor is good for beards 1 to 3 days old.It cannot handle anything longer than that as the blades are very close to each other and requires short strokes, otherwise gets clogged very easily. It does not come no where near a Mach 3 when it comes to condition i mentioned above,in cases where you shave daily or alternate day it is way superior to a Mach3 and as advertised it has less tug and pull.I would recommend investing some more dollars for a different package which comes with a razor stand,as this one here does not come with one.

This razor is called the proglide for a reason. I preordered this razor with the hopes it would be better than the original fusion. I am happy to say from my experience that it is to me. This razor has no pull on a three day old beard along with no nicks or cuts, this must be due to the thinner finer blades. This is why they call it the pro glide. The lubrication strip is a lot bigger than the original and the diffrence is slightly noticeable during the shave. There was no stubble left over with a second pass. I have never tried the fusion power due to I feel that it is sort of a gimmic with the vibration in ways that other power razors have cut me or tugged at the beard so I stick with the manual. So far i am very pleased with this razor and even ordered the blade refills already. I will never even look back at my old fusion now due to the upgraded comfort and longer lasting blades of proglide. One reviewer feels that this razor is not much of an upgrade from the original and to stick with the original fusion but I beg to differ strongly. The old fusion is nice but no where compares to the proglide. It is definately worth the almost $11 for the best shave I have found so far!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Razor No Question, July 22, 2010
This review is from: Gillette Fusion Proglide Manual Razor, 1-count Package (Health and Beauty)
This is the best razor I have ever owned to this day. The first day I grabbed the Fusion ProGlide with my hand I noticed a big difference in the handle. Just like everyone is saying you definitely feel a much more better grip in your hands. I was impressed when Gillette came out with the Fusion razor thinking wow this is the razor I will use forever, but when they came out with the Fusion ProGlide I was blown away. To this date I am STILL using the FIRST blade that came with the razor..... Yeah you heard right the FIRST BLADE. I bought it about 2 months ago and each time I shave it feels so good. No more irritations, no more having to feel that your beard is getting pulled, no more razor bumps at least for me. Once my beard grew back I shaved with my old razor the Gillette Fusion don't get me wrong it's a great product but after 4 to 5 times one shaves I started to notice all of the above I have mentioned. Especially the redness after I shaved half of my face. I switched to the Fusion ProGlide to finish the other half of my face and let me tell you it was the best feeling ever on my face it truly does glide. Like a hot knife cutting through a stick of butter. I use to hate shaving but with this new product from Gillette I enjoy shaving once again and most importantly this will save me a lot of money when buying the blades. They will last longer trust me on that. I recommend this Fusion ProGlide to anyone.

The last Fusion I gave up on because it gave me razor burn. I also gave up on the battery powered version of Gillette with this new Proglide as I found, with the last Fusion (and battery powered before it) that the vibrations from the battery powered razors, while feeling good, doesn't give me the control of the razor as well as the manual razor.

This is as smooth and in my opinion, smoother than the last Fusion without absolutely NO razor burn.

As I have sensitive skin, I use Lab Series Gel which is totally hydrophillic and in combination with the new Proglide I can now say I have found the perfect combination for those of us with sensitive skin and want the closest shave possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truth In Advertising, July 14, 2010

As one of many men who fight a constant battle with razor bumps, friction (especially on the neck) is the enemy. So I've tried practically every razor on the market in search of something which doesn't cause irritation. Simply put, this razor has proven to be the best I've ever used. Unlike most razors, it does exactly what it claims to do: glides across the face and neck without even a hint of friction or irritation. Thus, it's now my razor of choice.

That said, the ProGlide isn't cheap. In fact, at roughly three dollars a cartridge the cost of ownership is fairly outrageous. So I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for everyone -- the second-best razor I've found is the King Of Shaves Azor, which is FAR less expensive (it can be bought online from the brand's site). But for those with sensitive skin, this is absolutely, positively the way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great razor for the beginner?, November 9, 2010
This review is from: Gillette Fusion Proglide Manual Razor, 1-count Package (Health and Beauty)
I've been shaving for 20 years with an electric shaver, never had tried a manual razor. Always though it would be too much trouble, or I was going to hack myself up. Well, the other day I saw the commercial for Gillette Fusion Proglide and it sparked my interest. If it does what it says, I was finally ready. I was tired of the electric razor, shaving my neck was always a difficult adventure, always had to pre-shave so that the hairs were not too long, or the electric would yank those hairs out!

So I finally took the plunge, while out picking up a few things, I grabbed the Gillette Fusion Proglide, and took it home, hoping that it was as easy as it sounded. Since shaving with a electric was a different animal, and I wasn't sure how to go about it, I checked out the Gillette site to find a nice video on pre-shaving rituals, and much more.

So after dinner I went at it, this rookie prepped his skin and hairs, and foamed up with the gel that came with the razor. I started slowly, and softly, and there was barely any feeling. As I started to figure out how much pressure I could use, and what was the best direction to shave the parts of my face, it was a snap.

The first shave took me as long as my electric, but I that's the first time rookie shave, it will, and did get easier as I went along. It was sooooo easy to shave my neck, and absolutely no tugging, and didn't get a nick or cut.

Being the first manual razor I'd ever own, and being an absolute rookie at this, the Gillette Fusion Proglide was the best shaving experience I'd ever had, and I would recommend the razor to everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good handle, very good cartridge so far, September 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
There's no doubt the proglide version of the Gillette fusion is outstanding. But is it sigificantly better than the original fusion? This is what I've found. I shave in the shower, warm water, using a unscented Gillette shaving gel. The handle of the proglide has a slightly different shape, more of a knob at the end. I suppose the knobv makes it easier to grasp the end of the razor when making gentle swipes alog the skin, sort of an artist at work. But the handle of the original fusion is also okay, and I don't think the new handle is much of an improvement, if any. The blades in the cartridge are great, more than marginally better than the original. A few easy swipes do the job for most of the face. I've found the razor shaves closer than the original about the neck and above the upper lip. Result is the shave time is quicker with a good result. I also believe a proglide cartridge will last longer than the fusion. I've used one cartridge for about twenty shaves, and so far it is doing the job. thus, since the cartridge seems to give more shaves, that fact ought to offset the extra cost. Bottom line is, the new proglide fusion is great, better than the original, but since the original fusion cartridges also do a great jobb, I plan to use them up before switching over to the proglide.

Update april 2011 - I think the proglide works best for men who shave every day, and against the grain for a close shave. The blades are thin and close and work best with short hairs. When shaving with two or more days of growth, hthen it's best to first shave downward, with the grain, and then up against the grain to get a close shave.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Thin Blade Between Love & Hate, July 17, 2010
This review is from: Gillette Fusion Proglide Manual Razor, 1-count Package (Health and Beauty)
When it has came down to the advances we get with shaving, they can be strong at times with giving us the best and closest shaves, or a hit & miss only after a few times. That does come to be the case with the Gilette Fusion Proglide Manual Razor. I like it because it gives a strong clean cut shave right out of the gate when you use it. My biggest gripe though is that only after a few times because the blades in the cartridge are so thin, the razor does become quickly dull to the edge. So even to the visible eye, you lose that shave and you'd have to earn those wings by quickly getting a refill for your Gilette razor. While it is a great concept, it can be a easier waste of money only after a short time. Hopefully, Gilette can come out with a razor that can be closer to the edge.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best shave ever!, July 7, 2010
This review is from: Gillette Fusion Proglide Manual Razor, 1-count Package (Health and Beauty)
As a reference, my facial hair is not very thick or troublesome, and I generally shave every other day.

I had tried the Mach3 for the first time about 10 years ago and had stuck with it since then. In my mind, I couldn't imagine a more comfortable shave than what I was already getting with my Mach3. Yesterday, I was at the store to buy a new Mach3 because my old handle had worn down over the years, and I finally decided to give one of Gilette's newer razors a try.

I ended up getting a manual Fusion Proglide, and I was absolutely thrilled during my first shave with it this morning. It was by far the best shave I have ever experienced! The Proglide is so smooth, it hardly felt like there were any blades on the thing as I ran it over my skin. It felt so nice, I am looking forward to using it again tomorrow morning (instead of waiting my usual two days).

Unfortunately, although the razor package that comes with the handle is not much more expensive than some of the older Gilette razors, the replacement blades are noticeably more expensive. I generally use my blades longer than most, but if you tend to run through new blades pretty quickly, using the Proglide may end up getting costly. Regardless, I am now hooked on this thing already and will be sticking to this product. For me, it's definitely worth the increased price, because I can't imagine having a better shave than what I experienced this morning!
