Marketing hype,
By C. Hall "chall811" (Houston, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gillette M3Power Razor with 2 Cartridges (Health and Beauty)
Let me start off by saying that I think Gillette makes the best razors hands-down. I've tried the Quattro and some of the generic models, but always come back to Gillette as their products truly are superior. My biggest problem with the Mach 3 razors has always been that they just don't last long enough, and that they are expensive to replace. When I heard about the M3P I was skeptical; it just sounded like a bunch of marketing hype, and I'd pretty much decided that I was going to stick with my Mach 3 razors. So I'm in Target the other day, about to pull a 4-pack of Turbo cartridges off the rack ($7.29), when I see the M3P on sale for $12.99. I say screw it, and throw the M3P in my basket. I should've saved the $5. Bottom-line, this is a razor that vibrates. Nothing more, nothing less. Did it give me a good shave? Absolutely. In typical Gillette fashion, the first, second and third shaves were absolutely outstanding. Was it any better a shave that I get with the regular Mach 3? On the FIRST shave, yes, it was SLIGHTLY better (and I do say SLIGHTLY). But on subsequent shaves it was absolutely NO BETTER, and in fact I had to go over some areas (some patches) with my regular Mach 3 in order to get it really smooth. Additionally, the M3P's lubricant deteriorated to nothing after only 4-5 shaves, whereas I can usually stretch a Turbo cartridge to 6-7 shaves. Conclusion: This is a good razor, but if you already own Gillette's Mach 3 or Mach 3 Turbo razor there is simply no compelling reason to purchase the M3P (unless, like me, you're just curious). I highly recommend using your money for new Turbo cartridges instead, but hey, it's your money. For me, I'm going mail my M3P razor back to Gillette. Not that it will do anything, but as one of their long-time customers, out of sheer principle I want them to be aware of my dissatisfaction.

My M3 Power arrived today and I was anxious to give it a try. So I took a shower and decided to give it a real test. I had about 5 days growth and I just used warm water (no shaving cream).I'm shocked at how much of a difference the vibration made. The blades were just gliding over my skin and removing the hair like it was a magic carpet. As a side bonus, the vibration is at a good frequency to also provide a nice skin massage. Overall, extremely impressed after my first use. I must recommend it highly.

Worth trying, I have switched for good,

It looked like hype to me, but based on the past accoladed of gillette with their mach 3, I gave it a shot. I loved it. It's nothing more than a fast vibrating razor, but the shaking allows the blade to cut through hairs easier, with an additional sawing like motion. This means better shaves with older blades.I'm hooked and will continue to use it. However, I don't plan on buying the overpriced m3power blades. I'm sticking with the standard, non turbo blades. Works just as well.

Close and comfortable shave,

I loved this razor. It gave a smooth and comfortable shave with fewer strokes than my other razors.
I though it was a little pricey but it works so well I will probably keep buying the blades and use it. The only niggling complaint I have is the position of the on/off button - it is exposed midway up the barrel. I keep touching it and turning off the vibration mid-stroke. It should have been placed in another position. I expect others to have this same problem if they hold the razor normally around the handle. Other than that it is wonderful product. I love mine. It really does work well.

No one could tell the difference...,

I picked this razor up after seeing the ad on TV after somehow getting the idea that the "micropulses" were electrical in nature and caused your hair to stand in a manner similar to how static electricity does. However all the razor does is vibrate, and this does not really seem to get me a better shave. Below I'll list the points I'd like to mention.
1. Well, the razor functions--but for the price you might as well stick with the Mach 3 turbo and spend a little less. Personally the plain Mach 3 razors work just as well, they just don't have the lotion strip on them. 2. The grip is a bit weird. I had to learn to shave with a new hand position to avoid accidentally pressing the power button mid-stroke. 3. I actually did a single-blind test to see if the shave was any closer by shaving one side of my face with the M3Power and the other with the plain Mach 3. I asked about 20 people every day for two weeks to identify which side was better shaved by touch and appearance. I did my best to shave each side with equal care, and after tallying up the results it turned out that the people who could tell a difference at all said that the plain Mach 3 side was smoother just as often as they identified the M3Power side. Note that often, no one could tell a difference. In summary, if no one can tell the difference, why waste the extra money. Don't let the placebo effect cloud your judgment of the product's performance. This is just as much a gimmick as the four-bladed razor.

I had a Mach 3, and I was tired of shaving with a blade, so I bought a $200 electric shaver. I used it for a year, and it was convenient and just about as good as the Mach 3.
Then I gave the M3Power a try. Hands down, this is a major step forward. It is the best manual shaver I've ever tried, and better than my mega-buck electric. I totally believe Gillette's claim that this razor provides the best shave at any price. I'm sure the relentless advance of technology will one day dethrone this razor, but for now this is the best shave you can get.

This razor gives an amazingly close shave. When I ordered it, I didn't even realize it had the vibrating feature. I was a bit confused when I opened the package. But after just one shave, I'm convinced. My face hasn't been this smooth since I was a teen ager! Get this razor. You won't be disapointed.

Good, not Great,
This review is from: Gillette M3Power Razor with 2 Cartridges (Health and Beauty)
First, let me say this - this is a good razor, don't be fooled by the rating I gave it.But the problem is, even at nearly twice the price of the regular Mach 3, it's not any better. The bottom line is - the Mach 3 is a good razor, Gillette makes good products, and this is no exception. But if you're debating between the Mach 3 and the M3Power, or thinking about upgrading, this isn't the way to go... if you're expecting this to give a closer, smoother, more comfortable shave, you're going to be suprised. The battery power vibrating thing really seems to just be a gimmick. It's got all the ability of the Mach 3, but nothing more.

Not just hype - it actually works!,

I wouldn't have bought this razor - believing it to be just hype - but I lost my old Mach III handle on a recent trip. Now, I'm very glad for that loss - the M3 Power isn't just a gimmick. I was obviously skeptical, but just one shave proved me wrong. The razor takes a single AA battery, and the battery compartments seems to be somewhat water-proofed thanks to a small rubber seal. I've been using it in the shower for a week now with no problems. When you turn it on, the razor basically vibrates like a cell phone in 'silent' mode. I have no idea *why* this helps so much - but it really does. It seems that you can get all the hair with only one pass of the razor. I used to get a fair amount of razor irratation around my neck - but it's cleared up in a week with this razor. Even my wife commented that my shave is closer than before. Pros: Cons: This razor is, however, worth the extra expense. |
