Customer Reviews

It's made of a good quality heavy duty brass.

It worked well until the screw in the valve worked itself loose and fell out.
Erik N.
There is a ball valve inside that works great to control the water flow.

I purchased this product along with a new sprinkler for my garden. I noticed right away that I was not getting the coverage from the sprinkle like I did before I installed the shutoff valve. I promptly removed the valve and my original coverage returned. I now use this shutoff valve on the deck hose where I water hanging baskets and house plants where the pressure drop does not affect my watering.

I have three of these now. The valves are in daily use. I have them permanently attached to hoses and I leave the hoses under pressure.

I removed the plastic torque multipliers that covered the brass female connector. It looks to me to be for people with weaker hand strength (that'll be me someday but not today). People that break these didn't need them and are probably over tightening the connection. My valves work perfectly without them.

I used to use all plastic valves because they are cheap but they have poor impact resistance compared to brass. Hopefully these will outlast me.

I was lucky enough to find some of them (open box) at Amazon's Warehouse Deals for $5 each!

this is well built and serves it's purpose functionally.

my complaint is that the hole inside the shutoff valve/bearing is considerably smaller than the width of the hose connection. when putting this on, you are basically blocking off around half of the capacity of whatever is after it in the chain.

i use it at the end of my hose, right before my gilmour quick connects, so that when i change out my sprinklers and nozzles, i don't have to walk across the yard to turn off the hose so that i don't get sprayed (so lazy). it works fine, and i haven't seen any real loss of range with the water, but i think the change would be noticeable if i put another hose after this connector.

This is another crap garden hose product. It broke with in weeks of use. First the screw came loose on the valve then the plastic nut cracked and made the hole thing useless. I also purchased and would recommend the (Dramm 12353 Heavy-Duty Brass Shut-Off Valve) (*The Dramm valve that I recommend is MADE IN THE USA!) you can find it here on Amazon. Yes it is expensive but it's made of machined brass and it very well built. It did make it though the summer and most likely will last a lifetime.

I like this connector. I bought 1 and then another 2 after trying it out. I use them on the end of my hose so that I can quickly replace the nozzle without having to go all the way back to the main valve.

The brass fitting is good quality all-metal and should last a long time. The plastic, however, is the weak point. I expect after a few seasons of sun exposure that it will fail, but it's not horrible by any means.

The nice thing about this fitting is the buffer zone that exists between the brass threads and the valve. It means that it is compatible with relatively deep female fittings as well as shallow ones. The plastic flange (I suppose it's called) makes it easy to attach to hoses.

This is a very simple device and I find it very useful. I recommend it.

I have several of these and they work well but on one, the little screw holding the shut off dial to the body fell out.

I wrote to Gilmour, asking them to please mail me a replacement screw as I couldn't find one to fit.

They replied, asking me to provide the original sales receipt AND informed me that there would be a $5.00 charge to send the screw to me.

$5.00 for a 2 cent screw.

I will never buy another Gilmour product as long as I live.

They know what they can do with their screw.

Seeking the best available, I choose Gilmour. Having used their variety of connectors for over 2 seasons, I am and remain disappointed. The brass seems of poor quality and has a tendency to corrode. Leaks are too prevalent. This particular item is very difficult to open and close the valve, especially after not using it for a period of time. Plastic ones actually work better but don't hold up as well. I just wish these were of more professional quality.

I bought the "Y" 2 hose version of this product. Very well made and doesn't leak - so far. Only problem is the shut off valve mechanism is smallish and hard to turn; pliers or finger strengthening exercised recommended!
