A tremendous watering solution,
By JBarrie "JBarrie" (NJ, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gilmour Extra Large Coverage Sprinkler With Adjustable Tripod Base 199TRI (Lawn & Patio)
General: I bought the 999TP a few months ago. I have been astonished at the difference it makes to my watering. The tripod gives the waterer enough height to fire over the tops of all my shrubs and low vegetation. This gets water to much more of a useful area.Performance: The range of the device is fantastic. It really gets close to its rated 100 ft diameter, even on my low water pressure. On the topic of water pressure, you should believe the warnings you see in the other customer reviews. It definitely needs a healthy 40+ lbs water supply. Basically, if you have enough pressure to run two hoses simultaneously off a single faucet (with regulayer sprayers), you are probably OK for the 999TP. Despite the water pressure annoyance, this is absolutely the most useful watering device I have ever owned. (And, I think I may have purchased a couple of nearly every design available on the east coast.) Reduced effort in watering: We have about 1.5 acres that need watering in the dry periods of the New Jersey summer. I used to have to run multiple sprayers and move them every half hour, hour after hour, to get the coverage. With the 999TP, three positions cover my front yard, and four positions cover the back. I haven't used any other sprayer since I got the 999TP. By way of hints: (1) Don't bend your spikes: When inserting the feet in the ground, hold the -lower- part of the leg, and push in the direction of the spike at the end of thfoot. This way, your feet will remain in good shape. Don't ever stand/step on the foot of the leg to try to get the spike in the ground. (2) -Do- use the spikes: If you don't, you'll find that the unit flops over. It's like the recoil on a water cannon. (3) With marginal water pressure: I found I could get away with some marginal pressure if I regularly apply vaseline to the cylinder of the brass carriage. I tried WD40 and oils of various kinds, but vaseline hangs around much longer and has worked the best for me. Gilmour's customer service: I recently called them with a couple of small problems, to ask how I could get some spare parts. After a brief discussion, they decided to replace my machine. This was a tremendous experience. I am delighted that there are still firms around who support their products and stand by their satisfaction guarantee. Absolutely, yes, I would recommend this product to my friends, so long as they have water pressure for it.

Not durable, poor quality,

I purchased two of these units and within 4 months they have both failed to rotate automatically as designed. They unexpectedly stop rotation and a small area gets flooded and water wasted. I cannot recommend this product based on my experience.

Gilmour 999TP Adjustable Tripod Extra Large Impulse Sprinkler,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Gilmour Extra Large Coverage Sprinkler With Adjustable Tripod Base 199TRI (Lawn & Patio)
This is the perfect sprinkler for the home owner with a lot of property with trees, bushes and other plants. The adjustable legs and spay head make if very easy to water a large area. It is light weight and easy to move around. The only problem I've seen in the short time I've had this product is the rivits that attach the legs to the body of the product alreay have some rust, but I believe this can be corrected.

Nice Idea Poor Construction,
By Charlie "CLK3RD" (Philadelphia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gilmour Extra Large Coverage Sprinkler With Adjustable Tripod Base 199TRI (Lawn & Patio)
Great idea, great product but it is held together with steel rivets that after its first use began to rust and now after a few weeks in the outdoors are entirely rusted. One would think that if Gilmour had the sense to make the legs out of aluminum they would have had the sense (not be so cheap) to use stainless or even galvanized parts to hold it together. I had planned to buy a second unit if the first was top quality. I will not buy a second.

PIECE OF GARBAGE!!!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Gilmour Extra Large Coverage Sprinkler With Adjustable Tripod Base 199TRI (Lawn & Patio)
When I said to my mother, "Hey mom, look at that cool sprinkler! Can we get it?" I thought that I was getting a quality item. Little did I know, it was a piece of useless garbage! When my mom asked me to set it up in our backyard, I did. When I turned on the hose, I instantly realized what a useless piece of scrap metal this thing was. The hose connecter started leaking, the sprinkler wouldn't turn, and the tripod snapped and fell apart. It looked like some broken UFO with water coming out of it! When I turned off the hose, I also noticed that the sprinkler head had popped off and was lying in the grass. By now, I got so mad that I ran over to it, and started lifting it up when... SNAP! The remaining two tripod stands had completely fallen off, and were stuck in the ground. I just then took it, hurled it at the house, and the pipe where the sprinkler head was supposed to be, had made a huge dent in the wall. The next thing I thought of is, "Why would GILMOUR make such a piece of garbage?"DO NOT BUY THIS SPRINKLER!!!

The item does not work properly. The partial oscillation does not work at all and the connection to the hose leaks even when additional washers are used. Not recommended.

Lots of Water,
By
This review is from: Gilmour Extra Large Coverage Sprinkler With Adjustable Tripod Base 199TRI (Lawn & Patio)
This is a fantastic buy, but be warned that water demands are heavy. A label comes attached to the sprinkler that says minimum 30 psi. The well pressure is set at 40 minimum (to turn on pump) and 60 maximum and this unit requires 100 percent of the well output. No other outlets can run, so I would say minimum pressure is 40 psi.It will cover all the area it claims to, in our case a very large garden. The spiked feet have allowed it to fall over only one time in a west texas windstorm. I wanted to order another for the lawn, but there is no point since the well will only run one at a time.

Big disappointment,

Major disappointment! This model is very poorly constructed. The screw connecting the sprayer control to the unit kept falling out. I had to keep having to screw it back on. Finally, it fell where I couldn't find it. I gave up and contacted the Gilmour people. The Gilmour service center was of very little help. Not worth the money, in my opinion.

999tp,
This review is from: Gilmour Extra Large Coverage Sprinkler With Adjustable Tripod Base 199TRI (Lawn & Patio)
After two weeks of heavy use the head stopped reversing direction. An email to Gilmour got a promise of a replacement. The spikes on the feet are easily deformed and difficult, if not impossible, to straighten; but without them the unit tips over freely. The 106 foot diameter does not equate to 3500 square feet and is optomistic - a 40' radius is more realistic

Parts fell off,
By J Smith (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gilmour Extra Large Coverage Sprinkler With Adjustable Tripod Base 199TRI (Lawn & Patio)
Item worked for about two hours, then began to malfunction - stopped turning. It just kept spraying in one place. I turned the water off to inspect the sprinkler head and parts fell to the ground. Don't know the name of the parts but it is what ratchets the sprinkler to spray in the other direction. Waste of time and money.
