Product Description

Product Description

Gilmour Flexogen has long been regarded by the industry as a gold standard for quality and durability. With its 8-ply, polyester cord reinforcement and its high burst-strength construction of 500 PSI, this hose is built to last. The Flow Guard Plus protective collar helps resists kinks at faucet, while the crush-resistant Full-Flo heavy-duty metal couplings with O-rings provide a durable and tight seal. This Flexogen hose features a polished surface treatment for superior resistance to dirt collecting abrasions, reducing the possibility of mildew that would leave your hose looking dingy, dirty and old. When you're tired of dealing with hoses that crack, leak, kink and are difficult to attach because of insufficient couplings, then make the switch to Gilmour Flexogen hoses. This heavy-duty garden hose is made in the USA and backed by lifetime guarantee. If you don't already own one of these quality hoses, you should add it to your summer gardening shopping list. You will be happy that you did.

From the Manufacturer

Gilmour's Flexogen is the hose that has long set the standard for quality in garden hoses. Recognized by consumers and trade allike, it offers the ultimate in quality and value. It is the last hose you'll ever buy!

I've had 2 hoses: a Flexogen and a ordinary hardware store hose for more than ten years. The ordinary hose had a pinhole leak that I tolerated but the constant kinking and the ugly way it hung on my wall hanger finally made me decide to replace it and now I have 2 Flexogens. One note: I decided to go with the half-inch size because I never need huge volumes of water going through the hose. I like the lighter weight; it is easier to manage than my 5/8 inch one.

3/22/13 UPDATE: Recently I noticed some bulging in the hose and realized the laminations must have separated. However the hose was still not leaking at all, just looked kind of funny and seemed a little more prone to kinking. I cut off the ends and mailed them to Gilmour and after a month with no replacement I was concerned and e-mailed them. They e-mailed right back within an hour apologizing, saying they were out of stock and would ship the new hose ASAP. It arrived by UPS exactly a week later. I've decided to deduct a star for the slow response, maybe it was a fluke, but it seems suspicious that a manufacturer would be out of stock. I think they just lost track of my return and didn't want to admit it.

I have several fairly expensive more commercial grade 5/8-inch garden hoses of various lengths which I have used for years. They are very durable and flexible, but quite heavy. I am in the process of scrubbing out and washing my gutters on the house and decided I needed a lighter weight and more manuverable hose. So I chose this better quality 1/2" Gilmour hose in 50-foot length to carry up the ladder to the second story of our house. It's much more handy, lightweight, and seems fairly kink resistant compared to my other hoses. It also seems to approach nearly the same water pressure as my big heavy 5/8-inch hoses without all the heavy tugging around. I am very glad that I decided to buy this hose which has made my job much easier and will surely become more of an every-day general-use hose in the future. If you have similar requirements for a water hose, I believe you won't be disappointed buying this particular one.

I've owned this hose for a little over a month now and I can honestly say it's a serious piece of junk. I have no idea how this thing got 4 stars. Here's my experience.

Week 1 and 2: The host never kinks, it doesn't leak, and it just works like a hose should. This IS a rubber hose after all. It takes water in one end and shoots it out the other. This is not a difficult thing to accomplish.
Week 3: Ummm why is my hose lumpy? It appears that the hose caught some sort of disease and it no longer looks like any hose I've ever seen. The entire 50ft length has bulges all over it but it still works fine.
Week 5: The lumps have gotten bigger and the hose is starting to kink. The end where it connects to the faucet is leaking like crazy.
Week 7: I can't undo the kinks anymore without a massive amount of effort. The moment it starts working it kinks again. The lumps are out of control. My hose looks like it has grown an arm out of the side of it. It's squirting water from the faucet connection 10 feet in the air. Time to get a new hose.

If this is the last hose I ever buy than my plants are going to be dead in a month because I'm never going to use it again.

Update 9/9/2013
I threw the hose out a couple months ago. It leaked after about 2 months but I used it infrequently so it wasn't a big deal. One day I disconnected it from the faucet and attached it to another. When I turned the water on the pressure blew the hose apart from the metal connection completely so I had to throw the thing away. Now I'm using two 50ft Apex 7612-50 NeverKink Boat Hoses and both are working fine. They only shoot water out of one end and haven't grown into lumpy sausages so I'm happy.

I have four of these, two of them are twenty years old. One of them sits on the south side of the house, so it is bathed in sunlight year round.

The only time I had a problem was when the water pressure was too high. I thought I would have to cut the ends off and send them in for a new hose, which is how their warranty works, but the water heater started leaking, and I found out the water pressure was way too high, so had a pressure valve and new water heater installed and when that was done, the one that was leaking stopped leaking around the part you screw onto the faucet. This pretty much amazed me that it was not the hose going bad after twenty years.

Another thing I like is that it is pretty thick, and when you coil it up, it doesn't fold like those cheap hoses, and it seems less likely to kink because of this. They also have stayed pretty clean, we have a lot of humidity and I have had garden hoses that get covered with mildew, but not these.

I like quality merchandise and these hoses are just that. What else can you buy once and never worry about having to buy again? Not much these days.

This hose costs almost thirty bucks locally. Thankfully, we got ours for just over ten thanks to Warehouse Deals. Sometimes people just don't like something or don't know what they're getting in the first place, so they send it back, and that's when I swoop in and get a great deal. Keep an eye out for some good deals from Amazon Warehouse Deals. We've gotten many things at a fraction of their original prices, and they're perfectly good items with nothing wrong with them. This is a real nice quality hose, doesn't kink and seems quite durable. Really happy we got it, and even happier that it was a third of the local cost. Yaaaaay!
