Adventurous and fun,
By BookRemarks (Houston, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gimme an O! (Paperback)
Gimme An O is a spunky page-turning novel that involves Lecia Calhoun, a sex therapist whose career is taking off --- women are consulting with her in large numbers about their problems in the bedroom. And a chance television interview encounter with Anthony Beals, a popular NFL quarterback, turns around Lecia's life where she learns a few lessons of her own. The book is an easy read with a few zany characters that will keep you laughing. Although the dialogue isn't always authentic, Gimme An O should easily be embraced by many readers of fun, lively, African-American fiction.

Romantic Suspense at its Best,
By Joan B. Stanford "Jazzy Pen" (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gimme an O! (Paperback)
Bestselling romance author Kayla Perrin is at it again. With her latest book, Gimme an O, she weaves a sizzling tale of suspense with her signature dose of romance. Although this reviewer is not a huge fan of romance novels, Gimme an O kept me turning the pages trying to anticipate what would happen next.
Lecia Calhoun is a sex therapist who has written The Big O, a provocative self-help book, especially Chapter 13, which has readers buzzing. Anthony Beals is the handsome star quarterback of the Oakland Raiders, but he is in the midst of scandal, with pictures of him and a prostitute plastered in the tabloids. As a result of the scandal, Ginger, Anthony's wife of only a few months, wants a divorce and the $5 million she's entitled to per the prenuptial agreement. Lecia, while publicizing her book, makes many radio and TV appearances, including the Jay Leno show where she gets into a heated argument with none other than Anthony, who is also a guest of the show. Anthony accuses Lecia of encouraging his wife to seek divorce. Although Lecia did talk with Ginger briefly, the doctor fervently denies any wrongdoing. When Ginger turns up missing and all fingers point to Anthony, he seeks Lecia's help. Determined to find Ginger and make things right with his wife, the hunt is on. While searching for his wife, Anthony and Lecia make important discoveries about Ginger and themselves-discoveries that can have a serious impact of life and love. Gimme an O is truly romantic suspense at its best. Although at times I questioned how realistic Lecia's actions were, I enjoyed the read. With great characterization, the author makes you feel the sexual tension between Anthony and Lecia and the exhilaration of their wild goose chase. Readers will be pleasantly surprised to see that at the end, the author included the infamous Chapter 13 from "The Big O"...very interesting stuff. Kudos to Ms. Perrin for writing a fast-paced, entertaining novel. Like a skillful lover, she'll leave you begging for more.

As usual, Ms. Perrin wrote an amazing book. I liked following the characters across the states on their journey to find the truth. It's a love story between two people that you think will never get together due to the circumstances, but as fate would have it, they are destined to be together! A great love story with lots of wit and humor. Kudos to Kayla Perrin!!

amusing romantic romp,
This review is from: Gimme an O! (Paperback)
Ironically as her fame grows due to a bestselling sex therapy book, The Big O, therapist Lecia Calhoun watches her own love life tank. Still Dr. Love as the media calls her makes appearances on talk shows.
Football player Anthony "T" Beals was trying to save his marriage to Ginger when the media caught him with a hooker, which the quarterback insists that it was not what it seemed like. On the same show he is on, Dr. Love says his wife should dump him because of his infidelity and use of a hooker. Anthony blames the sacking of his marriage on Dr. Love for advising his spouse, but in reality Ginger set him up to be caught with the prostitute. T forces Dr. Love to work with him to find the vanished Ginger and get her back in his life. Their trek together opens new issues as they begin to fall in love and T wants to change the game plan. GIMME ME AN O! for outstanding as Kayla Perrin provides an often amusing romantic romp with a fabulous cast openly discussing sexual shortfalls (no pun intended as it is "not the size of the boat" per Dr. Love). T stands for terrific as he struggles between his enjoying his battles with Lecia and his feelings of guilt and incompetence with Ginger. Lecia is his perfect opponent and partner in the gender war. Although Ginger is over the top (read this humorous contemporary to learn why), fans of zany romances will enjoy Dr. Love applying her own help book to her situation. Harriet Klausner

I Want Her Back,
By
This review is from: Gimme an O! (Paperback)
Football player Anthony Beals' wife wants five million dollars! He cheated on her and she is entitled to this according to their prenuptial agreement. Anthony is hell-bent on not paying her this amount, because he did not cheat on her, despite the damaging photographs and the media attention. And more so, because he is not willing to give up on his marriage. For Anthony, marriage means forever, and if he can get the wife to understand that he was only helping a woman in distress, not hugged up with a prostitute, everything would be all right. In Kayla Perrin's Gimme Me an O, Anthony Beals will do anything to keep his marriage intact.
Dr. Lecia Calhoun, sex therapist aka Dr. Love, has written a best seller book titled the Big O. In an appearance on a late night talk show, she meets Anthony Beals. Dr. Love already has preconceived notions regarding Anthony based on an impromptu talk with his wife, Ginger. Ginger has painted Anthony as a dangerous, out of control husband who she is deathly afraid of. Anthony sees Dr. Love as the one person his wife trusts and would be willing to talk to. When his wife comes up missing and fingers are being pointed at him, Anthony practically kidnaps Dr. Love and takes her on cross-country trip to clear is name. Dr. Love and Anthony enter into a uneasy truce, as Anthony begins to reveal his real feelings and Dr. Love finds out Anthony is not such a bad guy. Ms. Perrin wrote a very good book incorporating humor, mystery and romance. The reasoning behind the actions of Ginger was easy to figure out, but because Anthony was so naive, this was a fun book to read just to see when the light bulb would go off. Gimme an O and Dr. Love may be purely fictional, but Chapter 13 that details "HOW TO DRIVE YOUR WOMAN CRAZY WITH PASSION!" is the truth. Jeanette APOOO BookClub

I ordered and read this one a litle late but still enjoyed it. Kayla Perrin always writes an intriguing story and this one did not disappoint. I was however, a little put out with how little Anthony new about his wife and couldn't for the life of me understand how a rich, intelligent man marries someone and not know a thing about her past or her family. This of course almost leads to his downfall. As with any good love story, the help and love of Lecia's character results in a happy ending. What more could you ask for.....

Not Believable,
By blakgirl "blakgirl" (Clarksburg, NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gimme an O! (Paperback)
As someone who is familiar with the sports industry, this book was not at all believable. The idea that a doctor would offer advice to a stranger on the street and that an agent and lawyer would allow their client to marry without a prenup is unrealistic. The premeditated, conniving wife and poor faithful athlete was way over the top.

At what price?,

Greed. Such a small word, but one that oftentimes brings out the worst in people, resulting in serious consequences and repercussions. When football great Anthony Beals decides to marry, he turns a deaf ear to the advice of friends and family who encourage him to look before he leaps into a marriage with someone he has known only a short while. Even though there are obvious signs his marriage is not a match made in heaven, Anthony is determined to stick it out no matter what. When his wife leaves him for reasons he can't fathom, Anthony is devastated, so he sets out to win her back, no matter the cost.
By giving out some advice to a distraught fan, Lecia Calhoun, a sex therapist and author of The Big O, has unknowingly landed herself smack dab in the middle of the drama between Anthony and his wife Ginger. When Anthony finds out that Lecia may have had a hand in his wife leaving him, he demands that she talk to his wife on his behalf and make her understand that she may have passed judgment too hastily. What ensues is a tale of hurtful truths, eye-opening realizations, deceit, duplicity, and of course a little bit of good old fashioned romance. Although GIMME AN O! was a bit predictable, it was interesting to see how the storyline played out. Not being a person given to greed, unless it's a good book or chocolate, I was amazed at the lengths Ginger went to get what she wanted. I've been a fan of Perrin's for as long as I can remember, and the more she writes, the better she gets. She has the ability to create characters and storylines that stick with you long after the last page has been read. Reviewed by Renee Williams of The RAWSISTAZ™ Reviewers |
