Book Description

0313291772 978-0313291777 March 14, 1994 annotated edition

Though chiefly remembered as the dance partner of Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers had many other significant achievements in the entertainment world. She was a dancer, singer, comedienne, and Academy Award winning dramatic actress, as well as the highest paid Hollywood star in 1942. Miss Faris provides a detailed record of Ginger Roger's life and career, painting a picture of her as one of the most versatile performers in the United States.

The volume begins with a short biography of Ginger Rogers, along with a succinct chronology of the major events in her life and career. These portions of the book provide a context for the chapters that follow, which contain annotated entries for her stage, film, radio, and television performances. The entries provide production information and cast listings, along with excerpts from reviews and critical commentaries. An extensive annotated bibliography lists books, magazine and newspaper articles, and movie trade publications that provide further information about Ginger Rogers's fascinating career.

1.0 out of 5 stars "Eighty Dollars For A Story Printed On Some Fifty-Year-Old Shlocky Typewriter?, December 27, 2011
Poorly printed with an old typewriter, and single-spaced lines makes for a great enough distraction to prevent reading more than a few pages. Shame on Amazon for allowing this. Plus charging 80 bucks for it is outrageous! Do not buy this!

This review is from: Ginger Rogers: A Bio-Bibliography (Bio-Bibliographies in the Performing Arts) (Hardcover)
This is an excellent book which reviews Ginger Rogers career, from her early beginnings to her last film. I found that the book is very accurate, although it did not have a complete listing of the magazines in which she had been featured. I have several magazines,of Ginger Rogers, that were not mentioned.
Overall, this is a very accurate book and a "must have" for a true Ginger Rogers fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you need it, it's worth it., April 15, 2009
The research is exhaustive, accurate and meticulously organized. I'm working on a project on Ms. Rogers, and was astonished to find this book on the market. A little pricey but, let's face it, when the market isn't going to be enormous, you have to charge what you have to charge. For me, it was worth the price.
