Gingerbread baby needs some friends but can he make them? Can he talk to them? Where do you find friends for gingerbread babies? Well, let's go to town and find out! What a wonderful story and so charming too. Jan Brett has some secrets for us in the corners of her books. It hints at the ending but you have to pay attention to find out!

A Delicious Sequel,
By Colleen D. Gallagher "teachingheart net" (Pittsburgh, PA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)

In the Gingerbread Baby, Mattie made the Gingerbread Baby a house to live in. In this sequel, The Gingerbread Baby is lonely and needs a friend. Where should he look to find a friend? Find out when you read about his Gingerbread Friends adventure. The Gingerbread Baby is found looking for a friend to live in the house Mattie made for him. Along the way he realizes that not all cookies want to be his friend and that sometimes home is a safe place to be. Jan Brett makes me want a Gingerbread Friend in this delicious new book! Children just eat this story up with the colorful illustrations. You can spend so much time looking at the beautiful pictures with your children. It is fun to watch Mattie at work in the side illustrations which you will find in many Jan Brett books. This is a must read for the holiday season and will be found on many k-3 classroom shelves. Be sure to check out Jan Brett's site for extensions to match this book!

Jan Brett's story and illustrations are never a disappointment! A sequel to "The Gingerbread Baby", the Gingerbread Baby explores outside of home in search of a friend and finds that there is "no place like home"! The wonderful illustrations allow you and your little reader to follow a recipe and bake your own gingerbread baby! It's definitely a good seasonal story to read with a special child!

Jan Brett is a beautiful Illustrator. I read this book to my my 2 children before bed time this holiday season. My son is 5 and my daughter is 6. They really loved to look at the pictures and the story kept them interested. My 6yr old can read above her grade level so she really like to read the little rhyming parts. The words are easy for to remember and she learns to read new worlds as well

My two boys aged 4 and 2 LOVE this book. I also read to preschoolers at the public library and they were totally enthralled with it. Highly recommend. (and I don't always like all of Jan Brett's books)

Still Writes a Great Book,
By Pamela Pirtle "Teacher - lover of books" (Spring Creek, NV United States) - See all my reviews

Great new twist on the gingerbread man story. Brett weaves the recipe for gingerbread cookies into the art work around the illustrations as the story unfolds. I love the idea of the gingerbread baby trying to find a friend and looking in a bakery for the friend. Yet the story still has the assorted characters chasing the gingerbread baby back to his house. Love the new happier ending and the surprise fold out at the end of the book. This read along has so many things to discuss in the art work as usual in a Jan Brett book. As a teacher the book could be used to compare the original story with this new version. The art work is fantastic as usual. Another winner from Jan Brett.

Jan Brett has done it again with this delightful sequel. Wonderful, colorful illustrations that will delight you wether you are 4 or 44. We give our son a special book for each birthday and Chrismas. This book was his Christmas book for 2008.

Sweet Read,
This review is from: Gingerbread Friends (Hardcover)
This book is all around beautiful--- the illustrations, the sweet story of finding friends and the gingerbread recipe spread throughout the pages to encourage kids and parents to make their own gingerbread friends! Even my 15 month old loves it because it rhymes and has a pop-up page at the end. Definately a sweet read!
