Be Careful with the Content of This One,
By
This review is from: The Gingerbread Girl (Paperback)
I am a kindergarten teacher who spends the month of December each year sharing various gingerbread versions with my students. So, I was excited to find this book about a gingerbread girl. It started out great with a beach setting and a young couple who created two gingerbread girls. However, it quickly shifted gears as the Gingerbread Girl runs past a homeless person on a park bench. In the end, she sprouts wings and flys away, giving the allusion of an angel. These are two content areas that just don't fit in my central PA classroom. Finally, I found the quality of the book lacking. It was published using very thin paper, and just did not have the quality of most children's paperback books.

I am a teacher and I buy a lot of books for teaching purposes. When this book arrived, my first thought was, "you've got to be kidding!" The quality of the book is more like a shopping catalog or brochure. It is pathetic. The illustrations were not really great either. Not book quality. Really a rip-off at this price. The story, however was very cute and a different take on the typical gingerbread story. At the end, it was unclear how the Gingerbread Girl got her wings, but the children loved it!

The quality of the book itself is poor. Cheap. The story line is sort of cute but not worthy of the time it took to read it.

Story line was ok, I purchased for preschool. Like others said pages were not school worthy nor young child friendly. Book should only sell for a couple bucks. I did receive very quickly though.

I had never seen so many of the versions of the "Gingerbread Boy(Man, Baby, Girl and Cowboy) even at our largest bookstores. I saw them for the first time on-line. The variety on the market was exciting to me, too. From the variety available I chose books that had a different twist but remained within the level of knowledge and understanding for my students. The students talked about the stories with each other! They discussed the appearance of the characters and legitimate reasons for liking one version over another. These children were comparing/contrasting at 5 years of age.
I luv it! THANKS FOR THE VARIETY OF BOOKS AVAILABLE TO INTRODUCE TO MY STUDENTS, CO-WORKERS, PARENTS, GRANDDAUGHTER, FRIENDS. |
