This book is hysterical!,
By Deborah Sandford "Marian the Librarian" (Madison, NJ, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School (Hardcover)
A class of students bakes a gingerbread man; the teacher calls, "Recess!" and the students race out the door, leaving the gingerbread man behind.
"I'll run and run, as fast as I can. I can catch them! I'm their gingerbread man!" His misadventures are too funny as he scrambles to find his class. The rhyming format incorporates the narration, as well as the dialogue of the gingerbread man and the other characters. I hope this team (Laura Murray, author and Mike Lowery, artist) continue to entertain readers--we need more feel-good, laugh-until-you-cry books!

Gingerbread Man on the Loose,
By Alison Jackson (Huntington Beach, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School (Hardcover)
This is a fun and original take on an old favorite. Murray's Gingerbread Man is left behind in the classroom and creates all manner of mischief before the children return from recess. The illustrations are simple and childlike, and the cookie's adventures fit perfectly into school and library activities. A must for teachers and caregivers!

"Gingerbread Man Loose in School" is the complete package! It's fun, engaging, full of action, and it has extras - a removable map in the back of the book, and a website with even more ideas. As a teacher, I appreciate its strong use of visual supports and rhyming to increase comprehension for young readers. Laura Murray has immediately become one of my favorite authors, and I can't wait for her next book!

The book is great for a unit we do to introduce employees at school at the beginning of the year. A good book to use comparing other gingerbread stories we read around Christmas time.

This book is a really great read aloud. The illustrations are especially visual and it reads a little like graphic novel or comic book (excellent for boys!) It's story is particularly relevant for back to school, but it's fun any time.

I read this book to my first graders when we were reading different versions of the Gingerbread Man and they loved this one! They could relate to the school setting and it goes along great with an activity in which they search for the Gingerbread Man following clues throughout the school. The author has these and other great activities on her website.

Great twist on a classic story,

I teach at a Preschool and was teaching a Gingerbread boy theme and this book was a wonderful addition to my lesson plans. After reading the classic story of The Gingerbread boy, the next day I read this book. At circle time the children were attentive and interested, it is a perfect read aloud. I even made up different voices for the characters and the children acted out some parts of the story with me. After the story we talked about the differences between the two stories. The children even asked me to read it again. My son who is in the 5th grade also enjoyed reading it.

Cute illustrations, great read-aloud. My 4 yr old asks for this book over and over. I could see a classroom doing a unit on the original gingerbread man comparing this version.
