Lafayette is one of Ginkgo's top-selling flatware patterns, and with good reason. While the pieces are elegant enough for a formal occasion, the hammered finish on the handles provides a casual, almost handmade appeal. The handles taper from a slender neck to a rounded tab end which lifts up off the table. The spoon bowls are squared off for a contemporary look, the forks feature extra-long tines, and the knife is constructed of one solid piece.

This 45-piece set includes eight place settings, each consisting of a 9-1/2-inch dinner knife, 8-inch dinner fork, 7-inch salad fork, 7-1/2-inch soup spoon, and 6-3/8-inch teaspoon. Accessorizing the settings to complete a well-coordinated table is a five-piece hostess set, comprised of a 9-inch serving spoon, 9-inch pierced spoon, 8-1/4-inch cold meat fork, 7-inch pointed butter knife, and 7-inch sauce or gravy ladle. Brightly polished, Lafayette is made of moderately priced 18/10 stainless steel and is dishwasher-safe, making it ideal for everyday use. A family-owned business since 1977, Ginkgo International is dedicated to quality design and value when it comes to flatware for the home. --Ann Bieri

I absolutely love this pattern. It's mirrored finish is just beautiful, and I've not been able to find anything else like it. The problem is, though, that it rusts. I've had 18/10 flatware before, and have never had this rust problem. The knives seem to rust on the actual smooth part as well as the hammered handle, and the others will get it on the handles. I'm so bummed because I can't find another pattern like it anywhere. So I have to give it only 1 star because of the rust.

I started using my set about a month ago, and unfortunately the pieces are starting to get rust spots! I have never had this problem with silverware, and I assume it is the 18/0 steel that causes the rust problem. I've never had to deal with this before. Regardless, I absolutely love everything else about this set - they are a good weight and size, the hammered handles are absolutely beautiful, and the serving set is a great bonus - which is why I gave it three stars instead of one. Be prepared to hand dry or use the heated dry cycle on your dishwasher.

I just received this flatware and have to say that I am somewhat disappointed in the quality. I knew I was buying an 18/0 set of stainless but decided to buy this particular set anyway after reading some of the positive reviews about design, weight and value.
I guess I'm use to better quality flatware because I find this set to be lighter in weight than I expected. While it has a nice shine to it, it feels somewhat flimsy and the particular curve of the handles almost feel awkward and uncomfortable to hold. The hammered look of the handles is also too subtle for me. I wanted something with a little more detail.
I wish I had taken the time to actually go see it in person before ordering because I would not have.
I really wanted a new set of flatware for Thanksgiving this year but I will probably send this one back. It is my own fault. I should have realized I would not get the quality I was looking for at this price point.
I would say that if you just want something new and shiny on your table and don't want to spend a lot of money this set fits the bill but if you want something that not only looks good but feels solid and will last a long time then you need to spend more on a better quality 18/10 set. It's like anything else for the most part. You get what you pay for.

Also, I think I should mention that the 5 piece hostess set is on the small side. Especially the serving spoons. They are just slightly bigger than the regular soup spoon. These are the smallest serving spoons I have ever seen on a flatware set.

Though the Ginkgo Lafayette pattern is being produced the new products are not 18/10 as stated. Theye are manufactured of 18/0. 18/0 has no nickle content and is inferrior to the 18/10 version that Ginkgo was producing. I questioned Ginko regarding the switch to a less durable material and they have not responded. Buyer beware.

If anyone does have the original 18/10 version (inked Ginko and 18/10 logo on the rear face of the untensil) please let me know as I would like to purchase a set.

I received 8 place settings as a Christmas gift from my husband in 2006. This pattern is so beautiful I immediately went online to Amazon to order the steak knives, 2 hostess sets, the accessory set and an additional 4 place settings to round it out to 12. The design is a one of kind and I love the balance. They just feel good in your hand. I have never experienced any of the rust problems reported buy a couple of others reviewers. They will scratch with normal wear, but this really doesn't detract from the overall beauty.

We went to dinner recently at a local high end restaurant and we were surprised to see they set their tables with this pattern.

For Christmas 2007, my husband completed my Lafayette collection with the serving bowls, salt & pepper shakers, napkin rings, tray and water pitcher.

Go for it! You won't be disappointed.

I have been looking for a hammered flatware set like this for years and never found the right weight, feel or overall design ...we had dinner at the Lanai City Grille, on the island of Lanai, Hawaii, when we discovered this set...perfect...and what a price!...I noticed that a few reviewers said they had rust problems...since ours is new I cannot comment on that, however, Ginko stands by their quality so I am not worried about it for now...

I have 20 placesettings now. I know. Kinda crazy. What I love about this set is how solid it feels. It is beautiful and after having it for over 6 months it remains scratch-free and super shiny. Still love it.

I absolutely love the design and look of the hammered metal; but, this set started to rust in just 30 days. I'm looking for a higher quality set to replace this set and I have only had this set for about 7 months. Even though it is dishwasher safe, I would not recommend putting this flatware in the dishwasher. If you must have it, be ready to baby it to keep it nice. Hand wash immediately and towel dry right away. That's just not a realistic goal for me so I will be replacing this set.
