Ginnie and the Mystery Doll,
By Lisa V Hatch (Hendersonville, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ginnie and the Mystery Doll (Paperback)
I stumbled on this title looking for a copy of the 1961 edition of The Blueberry Pie Elf. Having just found out that Jane Thayer was a pen name for Woolley, I started looking for it under that name. And here I find this lost treasure. I had forgotten the author of this book, if I was ever aware of it. I read this book in the 1970's when I was about 9. I loved it and am so glad to have found it again. Now If I can only find the old Blueberry Pie Elf.

charming and fun book,

All the Ginnie books are terrific for 8-12 yr. old girls. This one is about Ginnie and her best friend Geneva's summer vacation. They meet a sweet old lady and find a long lost doll. The pictures are cute, too. I wish all of Catherine Woolley's, aka Jane Thayer, books would come back in print. They are classics.

The Cover Sold Me Then and Now,

I gave GINNY AND THE MYSTERY DOLL five stars for longevity.
I'd forgotten all about this book until I recently saw its brilliant blue cover in a used book store. The doll on the front intrigued me when I was a child, and it still intrigues me.(Or am I just reliving my childhood fascination with it?)It was fun to reread the mystery contained it its pages. I'd love to know what today's young girls think about this book. I wonder if the lazy days of summer story telling style would appeal to their busy senses.
