Shock and Awe,

These are sharp. They are knives. They are heavy and gleam impressively. They will work.Yes, your pretentious friends will give you crap and ask you if you sit around all day slicing cans open and practicing your karate moves. Thy will ask if they can borrow your Slap Chop. They are just jealous of your stylin' ninja moves- and that they spent several hundred dollars towards the same end. You both have knives to cut stuff up and to hang out on your countertop, gleaming like they mean business. I never realized how dull my past knives have been, until I started unwrapping these. The first thing I cut with my new knives: myself. I don't hold that against them (or anything else that I want to keep attached to myself, for that matter.) For the record, the Santoku was the culprit. These things come in cardboard sheaths wrapped in plastic, and while I was sliding it out of the cardboard, it split the sheath and slit my fingers. We're not just talking about a scratch- I had to apply pressure, elevate, and bandage. Whoops. So um, be careful. Sorry if that makes me sound like your mom. All the knives in this set are serrated, except for the Santoku and the cleaver: these two knives also do not have a handy dandy spot in the knife block. That's okay, they adorn my magnetic knife strip with grace and style. The stainless utensils- eh. Let's face it, they're just window dressing, for the most part. I haven't used the cleaver yet- the santoku has chopped the heck out of some cilantro, the bread knife whizzed through an artisan loaf with a hard crust, the steak knives whistle through your carnivorous entrees with ease, and the paring knife eviscerated an unripe pear practically by itself. Love my new Ginsus- I am probably going to get the bonus steak knives, carving set, so my cleaver and Santoku won't be so lonely on the knife strip- I pitched my other knives.

Great knife set,

Pros: This knife set is really good. The blades are all sharp and cuts through fruits and vegetables seamlessly. The large knife is good for meat (tried on chicken).Cons: The knife is not dishwasher safe and needs to be cleaned and dried immediately after use.

I bought this knife set to replace a cheap set we received as a wedding gift 16 years ago. This set makes the old one look like a toy. The construction of the knives is very solid, from the metal handles to the blades. They cut wonderfully. With the ladles, extra knives, and such this set is also quite a bargain.

If you would have told me I would be buying ginus as a serious knife I would have laughed in your face. Well I did and these knifes are great. My wife the chief in the house loves them, I just cut stuff with em. $100 for a set buy em.

This knife set was what i expected for the money. Eight different knives plus a steak knife set, with sissors and utensils. My only bitch is that the block does not hold all the knives, two knives have to be stored seperately, that makes no sense. Other than that,i am using the set often and enjoying it.

I bought this product on price not expecting much, but they are excellent and fit with my kitchen decor. Wish they had a higher spec product available.

I love these knives. Great quality. Nice weight. Don't leave them sitting in water, though. As with steel products, they tend to rust, but it takes a while (days actually) of sitting in water for them to rust. **Rusting has nothing to do with the quality of a forged steel product. That's a natural tendency of the steel** Beautiful set. Edges are sharp, but the blades are easy to handle.

For quite some time my wife has wanted to replace our old, dull set of kitchen knives. After seeing that sets can run anywhere from $20 to $1000, I started reading reviews on Amazon and finally settled on this set. We weren't disappointed. First, shipping was faster than anticipated (glad I used the free shipping and didnt pay for the upgrade) and the packaging was sufficient and the product arrived intact. Second, The price was very reasonable for a set that included so many pieces. The knives all came in a thin plastic sleeve with a cardboard sheath over the blade. They have a heavy, sturdy feel to them and the stainless handle gives them a professional look. Although my wife could name each knife on sight, I was impressed with the array of different knives even if I didnt know the intended purpose of some of them. The utensils are a nice addition as well that will surely get put to use. The blades on these have been very impressive so far. Mind you, we've only just started using them since Christmas, but after having a cheap department store set for years, these things are like razors. So far while chopping carrots and cutting steak my wife has made a point to tell me how much of a difference these knives make compared to what we had. Even the prospect of having to hand wash these hasn't bothered us as long as it lends to these knives staying in the condition they're in now. The only slight disappointment I had was that the block doesn't hold all of the knives included in the set, so some of them have to be kept in a drawer. However that's only a display issue and I'm not going to dock a star from the review for that. I'll try to check back in a month or two and update how they've held up after some usage.

First the item was delivered without ordering issues. However, the package clearly states it is a Ginsu knife set with a Japanese stainless steel label; however, all knives are made in China. Are these the same quality? Will they stay sharp and last as long?
