This Giordano Libero 1.6 'Boys' Frame Road Bike is best considered by those who are seeking a high quality road bike for their young children, primarily for kids aged 8-13, or from 4'-5' tall.

(Much older or taller than that, and probably a small frame size, 'normal' 700c or 650c size wheel road bike would be suitable.)

Finding Junior road bikes isn't easy - they're scarce, and rarely stocked in most LBS (local bike shops).

When you think of it, Walmart (& other mass retaliers) only offer mountain style bikes in the 24" wheel size.

Those bikes are usually cheap, heavy & suited to neighborhood jaunts or light trails - NOT for serious road use.

Our 3 small girls (aged 8, 9 & 11) had those 'heavy' Walmart moutain bikes, but couldn't keep up with my older two children & I on our faster road bikes, so we got them these Giordano road bikes (this exact one & two smaller 15" 'girls' frame Giordanos), and they couldn't be happier.

These bikes feature quick release, reasonably light weight, high quality rims & brake lever shifters, which integrate the shifting & brakes together in one control - just like all high end road bikes do today.

This Giordano weighs 24 #, which is a good 10 # less than those heavy mountain bikes, plus they roll on smoother, lighter tires (moderately wide 32c Cyclocross tires, best suited for dirt trails / road).

It also features a smaller, 165mm 'youth' road crankset, and a good range of gears, 16 speeds, with a 42/52 front chainrings & 11-30 tooth rear cassette / freewheel - which helps on those steeper grades & yet provides plenty of higher range speed for flats & downhills.

...for a young female aspiring road cyclist !

I say 'female' as the white & pink color scheme & flowery bar tape strongly suggest it to be a girls bike !

The quality of this bike is actually higher than the price, making it a very good value.

There are precious few choices in bikes of this category, "Junior Road Bikes" that have a 24" wheel size - which is perfect for all those 'under 5' tall' boys or girls. I suppose that would be kids 8-12, generally speaking.

(All too often, even professional LBS personnel try to fit little kids to small frame & 650c or 700c adult wheel size road bikes - the dimensions like crank length, handlebar width are all too large....resulting in a discouraged child who won't ride a bike that doesn't fit...)

Our 8 year old measures 54" tall, 4'6", with an inseam of 24" - she just squeeks by the standover highth of 25.5"

We also have the slightly larger, Boys frame Giordano Libero 1.6 Junior road bike - the bikes are near identical, the main difference being the frame size - this bike is 15" (37cm) tall, and the Boys model is 17.5" (44cm) tall

(measured from center of crank to top of seatube)

And the paint scheme - the Boys model being Red & White.

One thing to consider is when they shortened the frame on this junior bike, they didn't shorten the 'top tube' - from center seat post to center of head tube - so the 'reach' may be a bit long for your child.

This bike is very light and attractive. It is a girls bike but since I am a very short female the womans version is too big for me. It rides smooth and quite. The breaks could be a little better and I just wish that the handle bars could be adjusted upward a little. But other than that, the bike was worth the money. Good buy.

We purchased this bike for my son who has just started doing some tri's. I had been going to various bike shops and was shocked at the price for a kids road bike. The low end price was $700 to $800 and went up from there. Since he will be growing we didnt feel it the best to spend that kind of money now. I am not a bike guy so I cant say how this compares to the higher priced bikes, but I asked the guy at the bike shop and he said the components where good as well as the rims and tires. I would recommend taking to a bike shop to have it tuned, shifting was off after I assembled it and need to have the derailer adjusted. Bike looks like it cost a lot more then it does, had a lot of people stop us and ask where an how much we paid, all were shocked at the price. We have been very pleased with it so far and he has put a lot of miles on it.

I'm 5'2" but far from 15 (double that!) and this bike is a godsend to me. It's the first one to fit my frame. The design is amazing--light weight, very sturdy, and very reliable. I commute to/from work (~30 mi/day) and this bike has yet to let me down. I'm about 300 miles into this bike and I wouldn't trade anyone. I get compliments from people constantly. I added a few things--new seat, bell, lights, a mounted pump, and a small holder for my phone. It's a perfect everyday/long distance bike.
