I set this car window mount up for my wife with her spotting scope; she clamped it on a few times without trouble. Then, she set it up and just turned to me with the handle in her hand and a puzzled look on her face.. Long story
short, it looks like the threads inside the mount stripped when she turned the
handle to tighten the mount on the window. Very fine metal debris and grease remain on the screw threads
at the end of the handle but it pulls out of the mount without gripping anything . I have owned at least six small window mount devices before and
never had such a problem. The screw pitch is 28 threads per inch which should be strong enough to tighten the mount. The inside of the mount does not look like it is tapped or threaded and there is no sign of any bolt. This unit is certainly not "Heavy Duty." Bottom line is the device is useless if it cannot be tightened
with a scope on board. Boo! If Giottos is supposed to produce high quality gear, this
is certainly no example. Also, I have reviewed all my e-mails for last two years and cannot find where I bought it -- must have been from a shop that does not leave much of an e-mail paper trail. It's only $53 but should have been better spent.

This is a great tool! I realized how many photos I make from the window of my (parked) car. But I really, really wish the top plate that screws to the camera were the same as for the Giotto tripod that I bought more recently. This is a big one for me, and I just assumed the two plates would be the same.

Easy to use and fits on other surfaces other than windows. Just don't roll window up on it. I don't think it will break but the window probably will.
