Anyone interested in one of the most mysterious and compelling of srtists must read this book. It is carefully compiled and organized for maximum comprehension of
Bellini who is surely one of the greatest painters in history. The publisher has struck a fine balance between the ardent art historian and investigator and that of an art
lover. The prose is elegant but never pedantic. The illustrations are well chosen and placed in the text at the most salient places. This is a classic book on a giant
and the sense that emerges is that of a powerfully engaged, pious and humble maker. William Havlicek PhD

Many of Giovanni Bellinis' paintings have been restored recently and high quality images have been made in occasion of various exhibitions (f.e. "Il colore ritrovato", Venice 2000).
Unfortunately the author ignores these efforts and/or shows too little interest in modern colour management.
This is a shame, because the "lyrics" are really well done.
