1.0 out of 5 stars Good Grief! Another Spying Adware-laden Game September 29, 2013
Verified Purchase
Table Tennis 3D seems less designed to entertain you than it is to feed you to the advertisers.

In addition to Flurry Analytics and Location Tracking, Table Tennis 3D features the following adware:
- AdMob
- AdSense
- Millenial
- MoPub

*WHY* is the location tracking and the adware necessary in a PAID game?

To add insult to injury, you also don't get the entire game you paid for unless you like them on Facebook. [NOTE: I played with the internet off, so I cannot say whether there are ads in the game or not.] If you do like them, you get free coins. I didn't see any current use for coins, and must assume that the developer is planning on introducing some sort of IAP for coins. Maybe it'll offer bigger paddles or something. But right now, it seems useless.

About the gameplay:
Despite being built on the gorgeous Unity platform, the graphics are dismally unattractive and boring. At least there is no annoying music, but there are sound effects. Inside the game there is no way to turn off the sound effects or reduce their volume, so your device's volume controls will have to do. Plus, you can't simply exit the game with the back button; you must return to the main menu before exiting. Keep in mind that if you do leave, it doesn't save the current game AND if you are in a competitive mode, the game considers you leaving as you forfeiting the game! Very uncool.

Trying to serve is an exercise in frustration and futility. I'm also wondering about how well the game keeps score. When I played, the score should have been 3-1, with me winning. Instead, it was 2-2. If there was a foul, then the game should have notified me. It didn't.

Enough is enough with the games (in this case, basic and poorly conceived) that are designed for the sole purpose of worming into our devices and mining our data. This fiasco in particular takes your location, blares you with ads and collects your site data. This isn't random, it doesn't help your game play it is simply for the purpose of selling you, marketing you and hopefully your friends! There is of course a connect to Facebook feature which gives you coins (has anyone found a use for coins in the game yet? I didn't). The only reason they want to connect you to Facebook is so they can sell your friends stuff. Be careful,be very careful about what you're willing to give away for in exchange for some virtual currency.
The game itself is no frills and boring. Mr. Butler and Mr. Reese have warned us about leaving the game mid-play and I experienced the same- not that I cared about losing my place because the game is stupid anyway! Cheers!

1.0 out of 5 stars Just didn't interest me + intrusive components September 29, 2013

I agree with Mr. Reese that the permissions and adware potential for this game are simply unnecessary. Unless you absolutely MUST play a rather blah table tennis game, they're just not worth adding this app to your tablet or phone.

The physics of the game are not sound. On the one hand it sometimes "cheats" to curve your ball back onto the table to keep it in play, but that doesn't really matter because even in novice mode it is very rare for the opponent to miss returning your shot. This game gave me zero feeling of playing real table tennis.

I don't know if some people have better "tablet skills" than me, but some of these games where you need to use a finger instead of a stylus cause me to use too much pressure against the screen, eventually causing soreness in a knuckle. This was one of those games. Even if I liked the game, I wouldn't be able to play it for that reason.

I'll confirm that you can't save a game and return later ... leaving the game screen is a loss. At least unlike the previous FAotD, this game WILL let you out of the game through it's menus, even if that is a multi-step process.

I also experienced a bug in the game where the player's paddle sometimes jumps to the net and stays there. Eventually it would move back to its normal area, but a few points were lost before it did.

The game could use a tutorial and give the player more prospects to win points. If you try this and don't continually get run off the table by this game I'd love to hear what your technique is to win more points.

I don't think this is a game you're likely to stay interested in for long at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disturbing use of permissions for a paid game September 29, 2013
I am really getting tired of developers who think that the privacy of their customers is something to exploit. Developer: you have no right to my location for an app like this. And your use of multiple embedded tracking and spyware programs without full disclosure is the deal breaker for me. I don't even care about your game at any price at this point. Even ONE star is one star too many. Developers like you need to KNOCK IT OFF ALREADY! Stop treating your customers like dirt!

1.0 out of 5 stars Average game with spyware and location tracking built in! September 29, 2013

This is just an average game and really not that much fun to play. The paddle tends to lie directly under my huge finger so I cannot judge where the ball exactly is and it makes the game more difficult to play. Since the table does not go to the end of the screen I don't understand why your finger cannot be on the bottom of the screen and control the paddle from there so you can see the entire table and have better visibility.

Game play is boring and I noticed that no matter how I hit the ball that it tends to spin in a curve after it hits the table and it curves right into my opponents paddle. Wonderful, an AI that cheats! As mentioned in several other reviews the game's physics are not correct and I constantly felt that the opponent had an advantage that makes playing a boring game just more frustrating.

Now to the bad part, I hate apps that use intrusive means to track your location. There is only one purpose for that and it is to push unwanted ads to your device. I also don't like having to spam my friends or like a game on Facebook in order to be allowed to get the entire game that is supposedly paid for. That is essentially blackmail.

This is a game that is not much fun to play in my opinion and the intrusiveness of the software is just enough to make me not want to have it on my tablet. After a few games I simply sent it back to the cloud.

Who are we kidding, great concept but poor AI. It's good or what it is but quickly loses it's luster after you move into harder opponents. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible
Horrible controls go hand in hand with worse graphics. As close to completely unplayable as you can get. Glad it was free. If I'd spent money on this I'd be irate.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Recommend, pay for play
I don't like these games that are just exuses to make you pay more for the actual play of the game. This is merely a front to get you to pay to play. Read more
