Delightful,

This review is from: A Giraffe and a Half (Hardcover)
One of the best children's books I've read. The rhymes are contagious. The story slides off your tongue as you read it. Children are taken with it. And then we create the game of adding new verses and rhymes for the giraffe, and a half.

Giraffe & a Half :(),

This review is from: A Giraffe and a Half (Hardcover)
Giraffe and a half is great for kids that love repetition. Your child could learn to memorize better with this book. I really love this book and I would recommend getting other Shel Silverstein books because I have the whole collection.

An Amazing Book,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Giraffe and a Half (Hardcover)
"A giraffe and a Half" By Shel Silverstein is an amazing book, especially for kids. I loved when my mom read it to me as a child or when I read it becuase it was always fun to see what came next. Sometimes I would even guess what was comming next. Both the pictures and the sayings made me laugh or smile. I would have to say it was one of my favorite books as a kid.

A Book My Mom Read To Me As A Child,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Giraffe and a Half (Hardcover)
I think this is a very good book for childeren becuase it is funny and also has alot of funny pictures. This book makes you laugh, and it also has many tounge twisters which, i think, makes it funnier. This book is about a giraffe and a little boy and he keeps making the giraffe do things or adds things to him. Everytime he adds something to him you read what the giaffe has on or did all over again. The giraffe ends up taking off everthing of giving it away. In the end he is just a normal giraffe again.

A Giraffe-and a Half---and then...A Giraffe!! - Spectacular!,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Giraffe and a Half (Hardcover)
Vivid imagery coupled with the hilarious, rib-tickling narrative in this story continues to illustrate the magnitude of Shel Silverstein's creativity. From the Giraffe and a Half looking cute in a suit, playing toot on his flute, to the snake eating cake who was told to go jump in a lake, to the entire montage falling in a hole dug by a mole including the dragon whose wagon was saggin..this is the most wonderful rendition of taking an event "full circle" that you will ever read! Once again, Shel Sliverstein captures not only young readers but adults as well, subjecting each to a "young-at-heart" mentality that is completely infectious and renders the reader full of laughter! By far Shel's BEST YET! Excellent reading for one and all

A Wonderfully Silly Introduction to Rhyme,
By
This review is from: A Giraffe and a Half (Hardcover)
Shel Silverstein's poems are always truly a delight. Some of the collections, however, contain poems that are not quite appropriate for the very youngest listeners. A Giraffe and a Half IS targeted at the youngest audiences. As the poem goes on, the titular giraffe is exposed to a more riotously funny situation on every page (a rose on his nose, glue on his shoe, etc.) My kids were laughing hard, and completing the rhyming phrases by the time the tired (and ludicrously attired) giraffe is rescued from visiting the mole in his hole, and divested of all his rhyming add-ons by various (also rhyming) people and animals. This is a great book to read aloud to your children--just remember to take a BIG breath at the beginning of each page!

Giraffe and a Half is my favorite childrens book. Not only is a lot of fun to read, but its fun to listen to the kids try to remember everything that comes next. It is delightful and funny, and its good for kids' concentration and memory!

Read this to my Kindergarten students and before I got halfway through the book they were "helping" me read it! They ask for it often. What better recommendation could there be?!?!?!

Two thumbs up from my kids,
By Chris's Daddy (San Jose, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Giraffe and a Half (Hardcover)
I have two kids--a ten year boy and a three year old girl. I take them to the library every few weeks, and my boy has fun getting some of his old favorites for me to read to his little sister. She doesn't always like the ones he picks out, but this one was even more of a hit with her than it had been for him. Besides being wonderfully clever and entertaining, the cumulative verse structure is really motivating her to learn how to read. She's got the first half of the book memorized, and we've got some incredibly cute video of her "reading" it. Every day a little bit of that "reading" turns into real reading, as I point out words to her that she learns to associate with the pictures, or remembers from a previous page.
