Bardot was the newly discovered teenager, the rebel against strict bourgeois upbringing, the woman who takes her pleasure with whom she chooses, and follows her own inclinations and desires...
By the time Bardot's second film, "Manina, la fille sans voile" was released in 1952, the blushing teenager had fallen by the wayside; instead there emerged a brave, wilder girl, liberated from the repressed rules of society... The eroticism displayed by Bardot throughout this film was undeniably challenging, though the fashions may seem rather absolute today... The impact she made may be measured by the fact that English censors felt compelled to cut 29 of the 86 minutes of this film...

This movie creates the expectation that it is all about Bardot in bikini land but is really about treasure hunting, greed and idealism. Bardot does not appear until about halfway in the film so she is in it but it's really not about her. Entertaining with some interesting plot twists but if you do not like black and white film, you will not be entirely happy.

A must-see for Bardot fans. But I am writing this to point out a mistake in Amazon's technical details for this release. It says the runt-time is 76 minutes, which could make you think 10 minutes of the movie have been cut. But the movie on the DVD is actually the full 86 minutes.

If anybody must get credit for popularizing the bikini in the world it is French actress Brigitte Bardot. BB isn't just The Bikini Girl, she's the first to wear that title.

I really enjoyed this movie even though I can't understand a word of French, Bardot speaks the universal language. While it has an interesting storyline, I cannot recommend the use of subtitles, they interfere with seeing Brigette! Very well filmed in black and white.
