3LW shows their more mature side...,
By
This review is from: Girl Can Mack (Audio CD)
Their self-titled debut "3LW" was weak at best. Recycled beats and the characteristic pop music were the core of the CD, but "A Girl Can Mack" takes on more adult territory. While not as dramatic of a change as, say, Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears, their music is not only more adult vocally but musically. The tired beats of before are no more, replaced by hip-hoppy catchy but not overly-so songs. The first single, 'I Do (Wanna Get Close To You) was a perfect choice: the video and the lyrics ("let me see you work it out on me") definitely show a transition.Ignore the negative press and lawsuits, "A Girl Can Mack" shows the uprising of three talented women. The second single off the album, 'Neva Get Enuf' (feat Lil' Wayne) is not as dancey as 'I Do' but carries hot beats and good vocals. 'I Need That (I Want That)' (feat. Lil' Kim) is very catchy, especially in the chorus. The remaining songs carry the same formula, but each holds its own purpose and strong meaning. THE song on the CD is the song 'One More Time'. It's simply beautiful. This is the song that truly displays the girls' talent and ability to express emotion. "A Girl Can Mack" also has a fair share of bonus materials: behind the scenes at the making of the "I Do" video, behind the scenes at the BET Awards, Kiely's sweet 16 party, bonus tracks...well worth the amount of money. The two bonus tracks are great too, not just filler to make the CD look beefier. All in all, "A Girl Can Mack" is a showcase of 3LW's real talent. These girls are maturing and are well on their way towards becoming the next TLC or Destiny's Child. While TLC's songs are inspirational and Destiny's Child has songs about independence and strong will, 3LW is a comfortable mix of the two. Watching 3LW mature into a strong, talented group of girls is something I will definitely enjoy. If they continue in this direction, who knows what they can accomplish.

3LW....Doing the Damn Thing!!,
By
This review is from: Girl Can Mack (Audio CD)
3LW is back on the scene without good old Naturi....Although Ms. Naughton is missing from the current lineup, fans of the original group should be happy to know that she does have some vocals on this album. This album is actually pretty good, for the girls show a maturity that was obviously lacking on the first album. I think the maturity came along when they were happily saying the word "damn" in the Naughty by Nature song "Feels Good".For you party people, the song "I Do (Wanna Get Close to You)" will get you jumping. This is probably the best uptempo song on here, because "Ghetto Love and Hearbreak" and "I Need That (I Want That)" are two of the most irritating songs in my opinion (although Lil' Kim's guest spot on the latter is an added treat). The midtempo songs fare well, like "This Goes Out", an anthem to ruffneck thugs (and nice minor harmonies), and "Neva Get Enuf", which features the ugly duckling Lil' Wayne. My favorite songs on any album tend to me the slower ones, and 3LW delivers well. The bonus track "More Than Friends" showcases Naturi in one of her two lead vocals on this album (a lot more of her leads were left off the album). This song is very nice, and the modulation toward the end is done well. "Crazy" is a slow running, melodic song that gets you in the R&B groove. "Good Good Girl" is cliched but likeable, and anyone who saw (2)LW perform this on Showtime at the Apollo knows that they can sing. "One More Time" is a nice feel-good ballad that may have you singing along. "Ain't No Maybe" is a decent song that shows that a girl is willing to stand by her man, regardless of the things he has or does. Overall, the album is a good one. Not necessarily the best ever (I won't lie to you), but still good. My only problem with this album is that more of Naturi's vocals weren't left on the album, for I think that there are some songs where Naturi would've given the more preachy, gospel-urban feel than Adrienne did ("Good Good Girl", "Ain't No Maybe"). But, all in all, a very good album nonetheless.

Mack On,

I got to give it up to 3LW for another tight album. Their writers and producers do a really good job. When I first heard 3LW I knew something was special about these girls. Doesn't seem like everyone else has had the same experience though. Although, I think they "got grown" an album too fast, I think they did a good job. The best songs are: I Do, Neva Get Enuf, Ain't no Maybe, Good Good Girl, This Goes Out, Crazy, and Funny. This album features a lot more singing from Kiely and a lot less Naturi. She has one verse on the whole album, which I was not too happy about. 3LW is discussing more mature subjects. Adrienne is singing the lyrics so I guess it's alright. She be sanging her little heart out. Anyway, if you liked the first one or you think you might want to give them a chance, go ahead, you won't be disappointed. They might be little women, but they are very entertaining.

In 3LW's sophmore album, A Girl Can Mack, they went for a much stronger hip hop feel on some songs. I was disappointed in this cd, because I only listen to about 5 songs on it. "I Do (Wanna Get Close To You)" the first single off this cd was hot with production from Diddy. Loon definitely added heat to it. "I Need That (I Want That)" with Lil' Kim was definitely a banger, even though Kim was bitin off Biggie as usual. The song is reminiscent of Lil' Kim's and Styles' "Get in Touch With Us" which is a much better song. "Ain't No Maybe" is an attempt at a love song which sorta works. "Ghetto Love and Heartbreak" has a hot beat so it works. "This Goes Out" is alright but its got probly the longest and most senseless hook out there. And lastly, "Leave Wit You (I Think I Wanna)" is ok. The girls in 3LW don't write their own lyrics, but they can dance and look good so thats why they sell. Kiely's voice is pretty weak, her rapping skills are childish, and u dont really get to hear Naturi. Addrienne's voice can get very whiny and annoying at times. Overall, i would give this album a 3.5. Its teen pop with a hip hop twist, but hopefully their new album will be a little more mature and better developed.

this is a geat follow up album. The songs and production is amazing. The girls are still doing their thang. They've got upbeaat songs which makes you wanna get up and dance and the soft mellow melodies that soothes ur spirit with the rythmn, beat and the lyrics. 3lw has really grown with their fans and this is a more mature album to them. It's more r&b and hip hop which is great and consists of bonus tracks and behind the scene fottages. Forget about NAturi's depature and all that drama and rumors, just focuz on 3lw and their album cuz this is a must have. This should be ya'lls diary especially for the ladies between 13-21 years of age. Go cop it!! U won't be disappointed!! i wasn't...

A step up,

I for one liked 3LW when they came out...but then again I was about 14 and so everyone my age was into them. Then, as I got older and said "this is not my scene" I heard them singing hook on the new Naughty by Nature song (new at the time) and said "damn, these girls grew up...and got even hotter" and so when they dropped this album I picked it up, expecting the same ol same ol, but some inpressive pictures inside of the new slut look these diva's were going for. Yes, I bought the CD for the pictures...but what I got were so average pictures and some above average tracks. Starting things off on the right foot with 'I Do' the girls show you the mold they want to fit...they want that r&b/pop market...you know...the Beyonce market. The album sports killer dance tracks like 'Put Em Up' featuring Naughty by Nature and my personal favorite 'Leave Wit You' which single handedly takes the girls from Disney to Playboy, as well as slower tracks like 'Ghetto Love and Heartbreak' and 'Ain't No Maybe' as well as killer guest apperances by Lil Wayne (the man of the moment) on 'Neva Get Enuf' and Lil' Kim (obviously an idol of the girls) on 'I Need That' which is an ode to the materialistic mentality. Anyways, the album is actually tight, with great beats, and no matter what you say Adrienne can sing...I mean, she has a beautiful voice. Keily (the annoying 'I wish I were Left Eye' of the group) raps a few times, but few is good and when she's not rapping you can't tell she's on the CD. Natura, who has an amazing soulful voice as well, is hard to hear as well beings that shortly before the release of the CD she left the group and so her vocals were cut back drastically. Adrienne might as well have dropped Keily too and just put out a solo CD...which brings me to the complaint of 'what the hell were you thinking starting the Cheetah Girls!'...I mean, Adrienne could have had a good thing had she went solo and continued the sluttified look that she had so mastered (although I saw in interview that she's getting a bit chunky now) Anyways, this is a hot CD...and should be owned by any fan of the Beyonce nation. Forget that these girls weren't yet legal and relish in that such hot chicks are singing about giving it to you...ha

I love 3LW, so obviously I love this album. This album is so much more mature than the last one. Their voices have grown on this album. My personal favorite is "Neva Get Enuf". I can never get enough of this song. I think it could possibly be the best song on the album. All the songs are good. They have nice production on this album. It's very different from the kiddie-ness of the first one. Naturi is only singing a verse or part in about 4 of the songs on this album. The extra songs on this album are great. If you haven't heard them, they are on number 12. You have to listen to number 12 all the way through. It's two extra songs called "Be Like That", and "More Than Friends". "More Than Friends" on this album is better than the one on "3LW". This album is definitely worth the money.

Nice Come-Back!,

After buying 3LW's first, self-titled album, I was a little reluctant when it came to buying their sophomore effort. Their first CD gained major hype, but there were only a few tracks that I found to my liking. However, they really raised the bar with this one. It has several guest appearances (Loon, Lil Kim, Treach of Naughty By Nature, and Lil Wayne), and all the songs were just much more mature, and very-well thought-out, compared to their first effort, which lacked in both categories. Although they lost a member during the promotion of this CD, and very shortly before this CD was ever released, you still hear all of Naturi's vocals, eventhough she is really only featured in about one or two of the fourteen tracks, but that's 3LW's only true down-fall on this release. The album's first song, and single ('I Do, Wanna Get Close To You") features Loon and P. Diddy, and right from the get-go, you get to realize that these girls have really grown. The song was really a great summer jam to me, and it's exactly what 3LW needed to come back on top. Other highlights are the brand new single "I Need That, I Want That" which features Lil' Kim, the very fun "Put Em' Up", featuring Treach of Naughty By Nature, the very true, yet nice "This Goes Out", and the heart-wrenching vocals you find in the final track "One More Time". "Good, Good Girl" is also a nice highlight, eventhough it resembles many of the songs on their first CD, but this time around, they approach their topics with a more mature, and a much better sound. Also "Ain't No Maybe" is a nice stand-out track, where you hear Adrienne singing her heart out, as well as the fun-filled, and very creative "Ghetto Love And Heartbreak". Also, after the first 12 tracks, there are a few bonus cuts, including "Be Like That", and "More Than Friends (Remix)", which to me, is a whole lot better than the original, which can also be found on their first CD. All in all, the girls really have matured and offer a very nice sound you should be sure to check out, whether you like this genre of music or not!

itz n ok album but 2 b honest without neutri it'z not much. The songs are really good but with only 2 vocals u can tell that neutris strong mature voice is missing. The guest appreances are really heavy but it just doesnt make up for the lost member. Neutri left for many reasons i think the record label shud have given her a chance!oh well buy the album if u really want to! |
