5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!, March 30, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Girl Drinks (Hardcover)
I reviewed this book along a dozen others as I was buying Christmas presents for my best friend. Despite my initial reaction to the title (ugh!), I immediately fell in love not just with the format and the recipes, but with the writing style, too. A lot of the other books were either too cutesy or silly, or much too serious. (Who wants to hold a big book or thumb through 50 pages to mix a few drinks??) This one was perfect, with a witty, sassy tone to complement the simple, fun recipes. It became our bartending bible during the pre- and post-Holiday festivities AND a conversation piece for guests (we threw at least two or three parties together last season), and I intend to purchase my own copy for my bar at home, as well. I will probably keep this on my "possible presents" list for other friends, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool Drinks and a Touching Story, November 23, 2002
By
Ed Johnson (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Girl Drinks (Hardcover)
This delightful little book delivers 101 cool girl drinks in a wonderfully illustrated package. The author tells a breezy and touching narrative --reminiscent of Carrie Bradshaw in TV's "Sex and the City"-- that serves as a backdrop for her barhopping research in New York.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lame name! Excellent drinks!, December 20, 2003
This review is from: Girl Drinks (Hardcover)
Everything about this book of 101 cocktail recipes is on point, except for the title. Rachel Federman has done her homework and produced a set of recipes that will surely impress your friends. I love the pocket-size of it, so I can take it to the liquor store or to the bar.

These aren't stuffy drinks. These are caramel martinis and chocolate-covered strawberries and london fogs. Variations on themes like Shirley Temple Blacks and blueberry mojitos. They're as much fun to make as they are to drink.

This collection is so big on creativity that I've conjured a few of my own recipes as well as morphed a few of the oldies. Instead of mixing cream into a Brandy Alexander, pour over a scoop of vanilla ice cream, grate fresh nutmeg on top, and call it a Randy Alexander!

I really hope Rachel continues her research and comes out with more editions!
