From School Library Journal

Adult/High School-Kyo is excited about attending Seisyu High School. The girls' uniforms are so cute that they're in all the magazines. But when the package arrives, she gets a shock: it's a boy's uniform. Seisyu is also famous for its men's basketball team, and Kyo's father wants her to live out his dream to play in the NBA. She just wants to be a normal girl, but she wants to make her dad happy, too, so she finds herself masquerading as a guy, living in the dorms with her teammates, and trying to figure out how to manage the shared bathroom situation. The novel is a winning combination of sports action, gender comedy, and school drama. Kyo has a contentious relationship with her roommate, Chiharu, who mocks her for being too short to play basketball and then gets flustered because he finds his "male" teammate attractive. Seino's characters are appealing, and her art is skillful and fluid. This is a fast, fun read-just the thing for downtime between school and practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Girl Got Game Vol. 1: Bad name, great manga, January 14, 2004
This review is from: Girl Got Game, Book 1 (Paperback)
The story of girl got game goes like this:

Kyo Aizawa is a teenage girl who just wants to live a normal teenage life, but her father, whom used to be a basketball player and wanted to make it to the NBA, is now determined to live his dreams through his daughter. She is going to attend Seisyu Academy, and can't wait to try on the "famously cute" outfit, when she finds out that her father registered her as a boy and cooked up a scheme so that she would play on the boys basketball team and become the basketball play he always wanted to be. Aizawa grew up p,laying b-ball with her father, but all she wants to do now is quit and get a boyfriend and where the GIRLS Seisyu uniform.

When she gets to Seisyu, she meets Eniwa Chiharu, a moody guy with a bad temper and a lot of passion for the game of basketball. He ends up being on the basketball team with her, and sparks fly. Then they end up being roomates. They just can't seem to get along, which isn't good when you live in the same room. But there is a secret behind why Chiharu is acting all moody and cranky, and Aizawa wants to get to the bottom of it. And that's part of what bugs Chiharu so much.

We've seen the scenario of a woman dressing up as a man or a man dressing up as a woman billions of times. What makes "Girl Got Game" different and worth reading, is that, it focuses on her relationships and girl problems instead of how funny it is to dress up like man like in most of these things. It also centers around Chiharu as well, not just her.And the comedy develops mostly from her trying to behave like like a guy and fit in.

So, yes, the description and name of girl got game make it sound like an extremely generic story. And if that is why you were hesitant to get "Girl Got Game", never fear, it is not gerneric, it has a lot of heart, and it is quite funny. I have good feelings about this new manga, its already very good, and I have the feeling that it will only get better with time. Volume 2 can't come soon enough!!!!

So *enjoy* & God Bless ~Amy

2.0 out of 5 stars Started out good...ended up with WTF!?, March 17, 2007
This review is from: Girl Got Game, Book 1 (Paperback)
I started reading this manga and was very happy to find yet another good manga to read. I seem to be attracted to the whole girl-acting-as-a-guy type of manga. So the story started off good. It was about a girl pretending to be a boy so she can play basketball. But as the story continued...and neared the ending...I discovered that it was becoming very dumb. The plot kinda died and people were acting in stupid ways and I'm sorry but I do not advise you to read it. It's kinda odd to right a review like this. I'm trying to explain this in the best way possible so here you go.

Beginning = GOOD. ^-^

Ending = GAHH. WTF!?!!?!? D<

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute Shoujo!, November 20, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Girl Got Game, Book 1 (Paperback)
Power!! (Girl Got Game) is a very good shoujo series. It's about girl named Kyou Aizawa, who ends up entering a high school known for 1. their very cute uniforms, and 2. their elite basketball team. It turns out that Kyou ended up entering the school as a GUY rather than a girl (poor Kyou, she didn't get to wear the pretty uniform>_< this was all her dad's plan).
So, anyway, when Kyou started school, she met Eniwa Chiharu, who is on the team. She didn't have a very good start with getting to know him, and later, they end up being roommates in their dorms.
Kyou has to go through many difficulties to be act as a guy and not be found out. When taking a bath, she has to make sure that the coast is clear, and that no one would come in, so she takes it while everyone else is having dinner. She has to wear the boys' uniform, and so no one will become suspicious, she also straps down her chest.
This is all I'm willing to share, for those who have not read this series. Good series, and has the same cuteness as Seino-sensei's other works, such as Heaven!!, and Suki Suki Darin (those aren't released in the US yet. I read from scanalations).
If you read this series, you will find it has similarities to Hana-Kimi. Well, good reading! Ciao! (I wanted to say that, just telling you I'm not Italian or anything of that matter.)
