This toy was bought for my 9 yr old daughter for last Christmas. We went to use it and was so disapointed. The cakes didn't taste that bad. The icing though...wow, disgusting! When it was time to actually use the toy to put the icing on....it did not work at all! Sure the icing came out but it just made a mess on the cupcake. Nothing like it shows.
We ended up just smoothing regular icing from a tub on by hand. So in our opinion it is worthless!

I purchased this toy for my daughter's birthday. I wish I had bought an easybake oven instead. The cupcakes taste grainy and rubbery. Even my 4 year old will not eat them. The icing is even worse. It is totally inedible. I read some review saying the cupcakes were "not that bad." I have never had cupcakes that tasted this bad. The machine also does not ice the cupcakes. It makes a little worm looking thing on top of them. I even had the additional icing tips and still got little worms of icing on the top of the cupcake. It was not really fun for my daughter. It was a huge STRESSFUL dissapointment.
Buy this item if you like GARBAGE.

The cooking process is fine, but the final product is absolutely inedible. Even the frosting was gross.

My daughter has used this about a total of 3 or 4 times. It now sits back in the box in the basement. Everytime it is a mess. It does NOT frost cupcakes in anything but a large blob of frosting. The frosting provided is gross, use your own or buy some pre-made frosting from your grocery store. Better yet -- Teach your sons and daughters how to make and frost cupcakes the real way - in a real oven, frosted with real frosting. That will be more educational, and the time they spend with you will be much more memorable and valuable to them. ( and you! )

I was so excited to give this to our 7 year old daughter for Christmas last year - the commercials make it look so fun! - but what a disappointment. The frosting/decorator does not work anything like it claims to, it just leaves a glob of frosting and a big mess to clean up. Plus it takes up alot of space in my cupboard. This year we're going for the good ol' Easy Bake Oven.

We bought this for our six year old's birthday gift, and like other reviewers, we're not impressed. It works nothing like the commercials show, and the final product is not very tasty. A few hints if you are going to use it: 1) Experiment with cooking times and water amounts, rather than just going with the package directions. We get best results with slightly more water and more time. 2) Don't expect that your younger child (probably <8) can use it without significant adult help. There's a lot of assembly and reading involved. 3) Don't expect TV-quality results. It gets better each time we use it, but "Ace of Cakes" it's not.

This review is being written by 6 and 8 year old girls.....
"Don't buy it. The cupcakes on the box are different than the ones you make because they icing squirts all over the place. The whole thing is just a piece of plastic with a plunger that spins around....it does not swirl the icing on the cupcakes. It just splattered and dripped all over the toy and we were doing it right. Please save your money and don't buy this b/c it is a waste of money and it costs too much for you to buy it. You should just buy cake mix and frosting and squeeze it out of the bottom corner of a ziploc bag and have more fun! Remember: DON"T BUY THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

What a waste of plastic. I was prepared for the cupcakes to be disgusting. I was also prepared for them to look nothing like the ones on the box. I wasn't prepared for the plastic cupcake holder to melt in my microwave, nor was I prepared for the frosting to spin everywhere BUT the top of the cupcake while using the froster. My daughter is really disappointed:(

This toy was no fun, its educational value is nil and it is already broken after a single use. In my opinion, it is a total fail.
I wish that I could post a picture of the unbelievable disappointment on my dtr's face after this cupcake making fiasco. Forget the taste; I agree that a cupcake "baked" in microwave for 25 seconds is going to taste like...it was cooked in a microwave. I figured this toy was more about the process. This waste-of-plastic contraption has a single purpose: to frost a freaking cupcake. Instead it ran right through the "spigot" and made an enormous mess. Let your kids pine for this. I would rather have my kid wish that I had bought them a toy they will someday realize is a waste of time, money and landfill space than end up in therapy b/c her hopes were so unrealistically high.

I read all of the bad reviews last christmas, but my 4 year old really wanted one. I found it black friday for $10. Per the reviews the cupcakes really do not taste good, but what do we expect from a tablespoon of water and 30 seconds in the microwave? This is a toy not a pastry machine. Bottem line - she loves it and still plays with it a year later! Plus it looks really cute in herlittle pink kitchen. FYI - We found the cinamon cupcakes to be the least gross.
