Some nice mixes of a great song., September 12, 2000
This review is from: Girl From the Gutter (Audio CD)
"Girl From The Gutter" is the fantastic solo debut single from Kina (formerly of r'n'b trio Brownstone). The song represents a change of direction for Kina, with the introduction of guitars, and a more rock / r'n'b crossover sound. Unlike many combinations of urban and rock music, Kina's really does work and sounds completely genuine. The Soul Mix is a little closer to how you might remember Kina from her Brownstone days. The rock elements of the music have been toned down, and additional lyrics have been added towards the end of the track. The Jungle Mix is quite long, but I like it (and I don't like much when it comes to jungle music!). The 2 remixes on this CD are also available on MP3 for free (and legal) download from Kina's official website - the URL is listed on the back of her album. Once at the site, click on the option of "Cool Stuff", then "Remixes". This is where you will find them, aswell as another remix not available on this CD. They also have a screensaver, desktop wallpapers and contests available there. I recommend these remixes for anyone who enjoyed the original.

Inspiring and original, July 31, 2004
This review is from: Girl From the Gutter (Audio CD)
Kina's music demonstrates the diversity of emotions we experience throughout our lives. Definitely the most uplifting track is "Girl from the Gutter" where she speaks out about negative people who try to bring us down, and how that can make us stronger. Kina urges us through her compelling lyrics to stop, take a look, and listen to the world around us. These are the sorts of emotions I feel when I listen to her lyrics. To my dismay, Kina's most compelling and joyous song did not make it to the radio stations. Her appropriately titled song "Me" expresses a very basic and logical fact: I'm just me. Through the song, you feel that she is almost shouting to the world: I'm just me, I am who I am, and I love and accept myself! What I like most about this album is the dynamics of each track. Separately, each song sends a unique message to which one can easily relate. However, combined it is in itself a masterpiece; a symphony of euphoria with many of life's struggles and triumphs condensed into one of the best albums I have heard. Remarkable!

I can't believe, August 5, 2006
This review is from: Girl From the Gutter (Audio CD)
I seriously can't believe how under rated this album was. Girl from the gutter has brought so many different emotions out from inside of me. I remember when I first purchased this album, NO ONE knew who she was. I was amazed! I wish KINA would have gotton the credit for this album that she deserved!
