Where's the Beef?,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Girl and Her Money (Paperback)
Women who want to take control of their financial future should skip this book. Instead buy anything by Suze Orman. Any one of her books will give you more tools to equip yourself for handling money, since this book gives none. This book recycles old ideas about attitudes to money, but doesn't give you any information on managing money itself.

Realistic, Encouraging, Helpful and Fun!,
By
This review is from: A Girl and Her Money (Paperback)
I found this book very positive, encouraging, easy to relate to, and entertaining. The advice is realistic and honest, and putting it to use doesn't feel like a chore. This book shows how you can be empowered through handling your finances well, and shows you that you likely already have good habits to build upon. Highly recommended!

This review is from: A Girl and Her Money (Paperback)
If you want to educate yourself about how to manage money, this isn't the book. Browse any money book shelf, buy one that actually shows you how to budget and maintain a budget and get equipped to take control of your money problems. This book won't help.

Getting Real with Your Money,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Girl and Her Money (Paperback)
A Girl and Her Money provides real-life practical suggestions on ways to improve one's financial outlook. The author explains the many pitfalls women fall into concerning cash, and then offers suggestions on how to get out of them. And it's all done in a hip, fun writing style. This book really takes the "deprivation" out of gaining financial control.

If you've had a love/hate relationship with money...,
By J. Desmond (VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Girl and Her Money (Paperback)
If you've had a love/hate relationship with money...read this book. If you think money books are boring...read this book. The writer provides an easy, sassy and fun read on a topic that is usually difficult, pedantic, and sober. Durling has a great way of spinning an anecdote. The personal stories (hers and others') keep us (readers) intrigued and relating to the topic and situation. Her advice to make just one change is great...simple but brilliant! I already started making one change and that led to two...and so on. Read this book and feel smarter and more brave about a topic that scares most of us, whether we'll admit it or not.

A Girl and Her Money by Sharon Durling,
By Sharyn Dimond (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Girl and Her Money (Paperback)
I have been reading this book for the past few weeks and have found it both refreshing and inspiring in its approach to finances.Sharon has written in a language that every women would relate to and whilst I have read much material concerning finance this book has both challenged and inspired me to take take control of this area of my life. I highly recommend it to any women who has struggled in the area of financial freedom. Sharon Durling has captured the heart of women and I laughed as I found muself amongst the pages as she talks about shopping, budgets that we all "groan" at (I much prefer her term of a spending plan) but the most refreshing thing was that she gave postive solutions and I have been inspired to start investing.Go girl! Thankyou for writing this book.

walk into that fear,
By
This review is from: A Girl and Her Money (Paperback)
A must for any "girl" that fears money. After reading many articles and (other) books on finance as well as numerous seminars... I got it, finally. Money for me was not about the numbers games as much as it was about feelng insecure and using money to mask issues. This book is much more than psychobabble... it is easy, friendly, and definitely sassy. It helped me get a grip. So I stand here today and tell you I finally understand the importance of taking care of my money matters and really implemented so many of Sharon's ideas and suggestion. It is a breath of fresh air!

Don't judge this book by its (front or back) cover,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Girl and Her Money (Paperback)
I bought this book thinking it would be a fun and cool financial guide. However, it was littered with biblical passages, quotes, phrases and messages. Not being a devout Christian, I was more than a little put off. I got partway through and was so fed up that I gave up reading. This book is not advertised as a spiritual financial guide even though it is, so unless you're a gung-ho Christian, I'd skip it.

just what I needed,
By stacey padrick (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Girl and Her Money (Paperback)
Get ready for a fun, witty, practical, hip, and helpful read! Yes, Durling's book presents a topic we'd sometimes rather ignore in way that entertains and engages the reader so you won't want to put down the book. In her light-hearted style, she eases you into analyzing your spending and saving habits, and gently digs underneath those patterns to help you discern the motives behind your money decisions. After each chapter, I was able to immediatley apply a new strategy. She offers not only helpful tips-- such as great cost-cutting ideas-- but the courage to help you take risks and make positive changes financially. She takes the fear out of 'getting involved in a relationship with your money.' Definitely 5 stars.

Durling's Book is packed with gentle wisdom and humor,
By
This review is from: A Girl and Her Money (Paperback)
Sharon Durling's written a book that even those who are phobic about dealing with their finances and getting them under control will enjoy. Durling has a gentle, self-deprecating humor that makes the wise advice she dispenses come across as gentle reminders from a girlfriend who's "been there, done that", but tells you how and why "you don't need to buy the T-shirt."Durling has her own unique take on how to solve the root causes of overspending and lack of control. Whether it's learning how to discern your own unique "money personality" or finding other ways to feed that craving that we sometimes try to feed through our credit cards, this book has some wise solutions that are fun to read about and not all that onerous to apply. I would recommend this book for all those who cringe when they receive the credit card bill in the mail, even if it's not all that much out of whack. It might also make a good gift to a friend who may have a problem with finances, but doesn't know how to get out from under. Most of all, this book is totally user friendly, enjoyable and non-threatening, even to people like myself who dread talking about money. |
