Book Description

1976
Western. "Life at the Pennington's Rancho del Ganado was hard, but it was a good life, far removed from the unnatural presures and dangers of the big city. It was, that is, until the desperate and evil ambitions of a powerful Hollywood drug pusher threatened the very foundations of the Pennington family. The Girl From Hollywood has been out of print and virtually unobtainable for decades." A very nice collectible vintage edition. No edition or printing indicated. Number 28911. Original price $1.75.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Girl from Hollywood, September 14, 2010
By
Parisonn of Atlantis (Minneapolis, Minnesota) - See all my reviews
This attempt by Burroughs to reach beyond his Tarzan and sci-fi stories largely fails because while the plot touches on the serious issues of drug addiction and sexual exploitation, his thinly-drawn characters and melodramatic contrivances remain at the "pulp" level. However, Burroughs' style remains highly readable, despite the clunky dialog, and he offers a diverting look at an unsavory fringe of the silent-movie industry.
