5.0 out of 5 stars The Stable Girl Gets The Millionaire, January 27, 2010
By
I love Jessica Steele, her books are so full of her dry humor that I find myself laughing almost all through the book. This book sounded like a flop, but I loved it.

Phinn Hawkins has a father like Pa from Laura Ingalls Wilder books. Ewart is a dreamer, but he was the apple of Phinn's eye and her father feels the same about her. Phinn's childhood in Bishop Thornby was very happy, except for the arguments between her mother and father.

Hester, Phinn's mom finally got tired of living hand to mouth, unlike Ma in Laura's books, and she went out to make a living, that soon became a issue in their marriage. When it made no difference to Ewart, Hester divorced him and later married a man who was a good provider.

Although Phinn never really understood why her mother couldn't be happy with the way her father was she excepted her mother's decision reluctantly.

When Ewart died, Phinn paid the new owner of Honeysuckle Farm the back rent her father owed him, but Tyrell Allardyce wanted nothing to do with Phinn, until she saved his brother Ashley from drowning.

Ty and his brother though born with silver spoons in their mouths were neglected by their parents, and the story of their hardships in growing up gives you the insight as to why Ty is so careful with his younger brother.

The more Ty got to know Phinn, the more he fell in love with her. This book doesn't disappoint me in the least even though as in all Ms Steele's the alpha male gets so close to having the alpha female, only for her to let him know he would be the first, and that makes him back off, only to rethink his ideas of her.

But meanwhile we are lead on a merry rump, with Phinn just being herself and Ty trying to discover if she was really real.

I would like to also point out Ms Steele is one of my favorite writers along with Helen Brooks, Susan Fox, Eva Rutland, the late great Betty Neels, Essie Summers and Mary Burchell.

A good read. A cute story and a nice twist on the Cinderella story. I love Jessica Steele's writing and buy her books as soon as they are out.
