Coming off of her PERFECT album, "The Sound of You and Me", and just as perfect "Airstreams and Satellites", I was unprepared for this album. It is more raw and unpolished. it is rock heavy, and even her slower numbers seem harsh.

that being said, I've grown to enjoy this album immensely. And my personal favorites are Unchangeable (5 stars), Brightest Star (5 stars...though I prefer her live version on the Room 5 CD's), 40 Days (4 stars...very different and compelling), and Fireworks (4 stars). I heard her sing "Fireworks" acapella once during a performance and it was amazing. I see she added just a bit of instrumentation to it, which enhances the sound.

I don't connect with the rest of the album, either lyrically or musically. But I know that the stuff that I don't connect with, is something other people connect to, and vice versa. I love Garrison Starr's music. it's so very powerful. You cannot go wrong buying any of her CD's.

Of all of Garrison's great CD's I like "The Girl Who Killed September" the best. Talented songwriter and musician, beautiful voice, great performer. If you get the chance to see her live -- DO IT!

And definitely listen to The Girl Who Killed September many, many times. And buy an extra for a friend :o)

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Garrison's best albums to date., July 7, 2008
This review is from: Girl That Killed September (Audio CD)
I don't know what more to say about this album then I love it. This is easily Garrison's best album since her debut album, "Eighteen Over Me"
Don't get me wrong, Garrison Starr has never put out a bad album. They are all fantastic. "The Girl That Killed September" is just that darned good.

Listening to "Unchangeable" over and over is pure bliss. Easily the best song on an already fantastic album.

If you are a Garrison Starr fan, you owe it to yourself to buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great album from a great artist, January 28, 2008
This review is from: Girl That Killed September (Audio CD)
I've been a Garrison Starr fan since the mid 90s, since the first time i heard Superhero on the radio. I'm not sure if this album is her best, but it's certainly in the top 2, and better than the last few albums.

I found both Airstreams and Satellites and The Sound of You and Me to be rather variable, some of the songs were amazing and some just really didn't work for me. Girl That Killed September has a similar problem, but this time the songs that didn't floor me are still quite good.

I think the first five songs are the best (Unchangeable, Understood, Byhalia Road, 40 Days, Stay Home Tonight), with 40 Days as the best of the lot. I've seen her perform live a few times since this album came out, and these songs sound great whether it's just Garrison Starr and her guitar or she's got her band with her.

I hope the next album follows this trend, and that maybe she can finally fail at keeping her career on the 'down low', as she puts it.
