Before reading this book, I had little knowledge of the importance of female writers and directors in early Hollywood. Before show business was respectable, there were plenty of jobs for the ladies. Tiny little Anita Loos, author of the book Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, was the highest paid screen writer in Hollywood for decades. This book is a fun, readable autobiography about both the professional and troubled personal life of a brilliant satirist and every section of her life is hugely entertaining.

She takes you through the inner workings of how films were made and how the stars lived. From her position as a major Hollywood player, she allows the reader access to the parties and private conversations of her time.

She even manages to find humor from her hypochondriac husband's refusal to speak, brought on by the amount of attention Anita received in her career, until he is given a fake operation in Switzerland.

This was one of the most entertaining and fun books I've read in a long time. If you can find a copy, get it!
