5.0 out of 5 stars Donna Alward's THE GIRL MOST LIKELY is a fun "coming of age" story., January 31, 2007
This review is from: The Girl Most Likely (Paperback)
Katie Buick had been labeled as "THE GIRL MOST LIKELY to have fun" in high school but she's changed since then. Katie is now determined to prove that she isn't just a party girl. She's done her research and put together a business plan, andnow she just needs somebody to believe in her and finance her endeavor. The banks have all turned her down because of her lack of experience. Her only hope is a man she once humiliated in high school, Ric Emerson.

Ric Emerson had a huge crush on Katie during high school. He'd even gotten brave enough to ask her to the prom but she'd laughed at him in front of several of her friends. It's been ten years since graduation but he's never forgotten her. The one-time high school geek has transformed himself into quite a fine-looking entrepreneur, but is that going to be enough to attract Katie?

Katie's first meeting with Ric goes far better than she ever dared to hope. While Ric doesn't reject her outright, but he does have concerns because of Katie's lack of experience. His biggest issue is with food quality. Because Katie intends to do the cooking herself, she strikes a bargain with him. Rick gets to choose a meal from the menu that she presented and she'll cook it for him. If there are any doubts about her cooking then she'll hire a chef. Though aquiring financing depends on one meal, but that's not all that's at stake.

Ric doesn't want to just finance Katie's business; he wants to become her partner. He's bored with his life and business and is looking to try something new. Katie set out to build her business completely on her own and Ric being a partner will undermine her abilities, won't it? And how long can they fight the attraction that is building between them?

Donna Alward's THE GIRL MOST LIKELY is a fun "coming of age" story. Katie may be well beyond the high school days but she's still struggling to prove that she's more than the party girl she was ten years earlier. Ric is successful and seems to have it all, but in reality he's not as sure of himself as he'd like everybody to think, especially when it comes to Katie. Readers will love Katie's determined spirit and the way her self-confidence grows as she gets the business up and running. Both characters are battling their own insecurities and believe me, you don't want to miss their triumphs!

2.0 out of 5 stars Well Written Misery, February 22, 2010
By
This review is from: The Girl Most Likely (Paperback)
I'm going to keep this review short due to the fact that you can learn more about the book from our other reviewer(s) and the book information supplied. That being said, Ms. Alward can write. Unfortunately, for me as a reader, I felt either angry or sad for nine-tenths of the book. This was supposed to be a love story, right? Ric is pretty much the perfect guy: humble because he knows from whence he came, good looking, successful, sweet, and most of all forgiving. He forgives Katie, far too many times, who - on the flip-side - is: selfish, completely narcissistic, bitter, unforgiving, immature, and petty. I seriously want the day of my life back that I read this book. The greatest travesty of this book is that Donna Alward is actually a decent writer... she just, apparently, doesn't know how to write about love and attraction.
