4.0 out of 5 stars PLEASE REISSUE FAMILY & VANITY 6 on CD NOW!!, April 15, 2005
By
G. Mitchell "greggmitch" (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews

Most Prince fans already have this stuff elsewhere, but I must say, teasing us with only ONE track from THE FAMILY and ONE track from VANITY 6 is just that...a tease! I don't understand why Warner Bros. is unwilling to reissue both the full-length THE FAMILY and VANITY 6 self-titled LPs on CD?! If you look on ebay, these CDs routinely go for over $100 EACH on ebay! Hello? There is a HUGE Prince fanbase out there who would snap of these full-length CDs, long overdue - first THE FAMILY: tracks like the ORIGINAL "NOTHING COMPARES 2 U" "RIVER RUN DRY" adn others are all sublime. As for VANITY 6, it's a nearly perfect and too short LP - BITE THE BEAT, MAKE-UP, NASTY GIRL, IF A GIRL ANSWERS, etc. were all ground-breakers back in the day - and inadvertedly influenced a new wave of 80s electro-funk today - FELIX DA HOUSECAt, do you feel me?! While you're at it, why not reissue VANITY's solo MOTOWN LP "WILD ANIMAL" on CD? So much cr*p is released on CD nowadays, but not these gems? Sad.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Few Tracks MATTER!!, September 22, 2003
This soundtrack is basically a "Sign o' The Times"-era Prince
sampler with a little throwaway new material added but it must be
given props for the stunning "She Spoke 2 Me",a funky blues/rock
number that ranks with "the artists" best mid 90's work. And you
can't get the Family's excellent 1985 hit "The Screams Of Passion" or 1982's "Nasty Girl" by the Vanity 6 anywhere else right no (a pity because I have both artists full lengh LP's on
vinyl and both deserve emmediate reissue!).But aside from those
three tracks whitch EARN this set three of it's stars the rest
of the albeit stunning material can be found on Prince albums
worth hearing in their entirety.

4.0 out of 5 stars A FINE PRINCE COMPILATION, August 8, 2001
By
R. Toomey (Piscataway, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This Soundtrack compiles many Prince songs old and new and also includes tracks by other members of the Prince "family". This Soundtrack includes two hard to find tracks, one by Vanity and the other by The Family. Up until now these tracks have never been released in CD format. It's nice to hear them again. This soundtrack also includes new Prince songs as well. One track entitled "She Spoke 2 Me" is also available in long form on the Prince Archive CD entitled "The Vault:Old Friends For Sale" which brings out Prince's jazzy side. If you are a fan of Prince's music as much as I am then you'll definitely enjoy this CD. The movie was rather humorous as well.
