Where are all the great songs?,
By
This review is from: The Girl Next Door (Audio CD)
There were so many songs in the movie that don't appear on this soundtrack. For example, Elliot Smith, Pete Droge, Pete Yorn and of course David Gray. The last artist's song was played TWICE in the movie (it's called "This Years Love" off of Gray's White Ladder for the reviewer who asked). This soundtrack comes off as an afterthought. One of those "Inspired By The Motion Picture" style pieces of junk. I gave it a two because it has more cuts than the average movie soundtrack. Plus, I actually liked the film. Too bad the best and most memorable music was omitted.

Great Soundtrack, [...] soundtrack,

This movie has brilliant music in it. The Verve, Queen, David Gray etc, however, seeing as it's a teen movie they've put all the crap songs on the soundtrack. So don't buy it. Instead go get the individual songs... just so you'll be able to live with yourself...
best song in this movie definitely is "This Year's Love"

Some hits - a lot of misses,

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie, partially due to the fantastic soundtrack. Granted, there are over 30 songs in the movie and this soundtrack does include some of the more prominent songs such as Filter's "Take a Picture" as well as the scores from composer Paul Haslinger (Tangerine Dream.) I was disappointed, however, to find many songs were not included.
David Gray's "This Year's Love," played during the party and limo scenes, was a surprising omission considering how much screen time it got. You can find it on his CD entitled, "White Ladder." Also, N.E.R.D.'s "Lapdance," played during the prom, was a remix. I know it's not the version on their CD, "In Search Of" or one of the remixes on their CD single. As far as I know, you can't get this version anywhere, and that is upsetting. Other notable omissions include Overseer's "Slayed" (during the party) and The Verve's "Lucky Man" (during the prom.) This could have been a five-star soundtrack and it really should have been released as a double CD. Hopefully, with enough feedback, they'll consider releasing a second CD with the missing songs to fill in the gaps.

The songs you want.......,

The good songs that you hear/notice in the movie are: Elliot Smith - Angeles (at the beginning) *David Grey - This Year's Love (when they kiss at party/havesex) *The Verve - Lucky Man (when they dance at prom) The Who - Teenage Wasteland (or Baba O'Reily) (credits) Sparrows over Birmingham (by Josh Rouse) and Turn of the Century (by Pete Yorn) are also pretty good. Only one of these songs are on the soundtrack so don't buy it!

CD = Poor; leaves out some of the best songs,
By
This review is from: The Girl Next Door (Audio CD)
For anyone who hasn't seen this movie, there is a soundtrack comprised of 39 classic-and-modern songs, used very well throughout. The soundtrack featured on Amazon.com leaves out some of the best. There used to be a comprehensive list online that detailed each scene and the songs played, but I can't find it anymore -- otherwise I'd post them here. I do know that these are not included on the soundtrack, and are in the film:
Angeles -- Elliot Smith (song during Matt's dream sequence about the scholarship towards the beginning when he opens the mailbox) This Year's Love -- David Gray (song in the limo) Lapdance -- NERD (song at the prom) Lucky Man -- The Verve (great song and used many times in the movie! particularly during the prom) Overseer -- Slayed (song at the party) Filter -- Take My Picture (song before they go to the diner and are in the car) Harry Nilson (sp?) -- Jump Into the Fire Sloan(e) -- If It Feels Good Do It (morning after the party) The Who -- Teenage Wasteland ELO -- Blinded by the Light Of course, these are from memory so I might have missed some other important ones and labeled a few wrong! But that's generally correct. Those are just some, of many. Check them out. Because they were not included on the "official" soundtrack I just downloaded them. I also heard director Luke Greenfield names each song on the new commentary track for the Unrated DVD. A must-buy! |
