Editorial Reviews

Review

Praise for Freda Lightfoot: 'Freda Lightfoot's talent for creating believable characters makes this a page-turning read.' -- Newcastle Evening Chronicle 'Charming and exciting ... A lovely story by an author with extraordinary feeling in her writing.' -- Bangor Chronicle 'Real people and real dramas are her mainstays' -- Westmorland Gazette 'The writer clearly knows her Manchester well, especially the canals, warehouses, factories and humble shops and dwellings of the poor. Her historical research has been painstaking and the sense of the period is very real' -- Historical Novel Society

More About the Author

Born in Lancashire, Freda Lightfoot lived for a number of years in the Lake District where she ran a bookshop. She has now given up her thermals to build a house in an olive grove in Spain, where she produces her own olive oil. She has published over 30 novels including many bestselling family sagas and historical novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book - Great Reading, January 5, 2006

This is the first book I have read from Freda Lightfoot - and it's a great book.

If you like Authors like Anita Burgh, Maeve Binchy and Maureen Lee - you will love this book.

Ms Lightfoot is brilliant with this book of Historical Fiction, the characters come to life - it's engrossing - she strikes that fine balance in this type of novel that can sometimes become all about the 'love story' - not here - the story is well told and solid.

There is a follow up to this novel "Woman from Heartbreak House" which I have just purchased.
