Author does not have the proper credentials to write this type of self help book, October 17, 2005
This review is from: Girl Power: Making Choices & Taking Control (Paperback)
In this book author Patty Ellis gives advice in a manor that may lead individuals to believe that she has had some training, education, and or work experience to be considered an authority to giving advice to adolescence. The truth of the matter is that she has no experience in the field, and has the education level of a 12th grader. The book it self is by no means detrimental to readers, however where a teen gets and takes their advice from should be from someone with proper knowledge. In the mid 1990's while working as a guidance counselor this book was presented as a reader for the eighth grade girls, it caused quite a stir and many parents felt the poor grammar, and somewhat sexiest tones used by the author were some what offensive. I am only writing this review today because my own child came home from a local book sale with an old copy of this book. I could not believe this book resurfaced, but as I looked over it once again I soon realized why this was the only publication by this author. Needless to say I did not recommended that my child read this book. After two chapters she to agreed.
