This review is from: The Girl at Saltbush Flat (Harlequin Romance #1757) (Paperback)
I like the old, old Harlequin Romances because I believe they have more substance to the story than today's books, that just go from one sex scene to another.

Although I usually have to trade for an alpha male who is old, mean, cold or abusive.

This story is no exception. Burton Alexander is not only abusive, he threatens to turn Christine Vance over his knee and spank her.

Ms Cork's story lets us know Burton fell in love with Chris, at first sight, but he didn't want her to know he was just like other men.

So he asked her to come to the outback and stay at his station until she is over her love affair(that never began)and she knows what she wants to do with her life.

To make things easier for her Burton asks Chris to pretend to be engaged to him, because he has a woman on his tail who won't take no for an answer.

This rough tough outback man could hold said female Jackie Lester off with one hand tied behind his back, but Jackie has a land Burton wants to buy. But Jackie wants Burton to be a part of the deal if he wants her land.

Burton wants only Christine, and he won't settle for less.

Jackie wants Burton and she won't settle for less. So the story has a good plot, in-that Burton really can't make Jackie realize he wants her as much as he wants mange.

From the back of the book: 'When Burton Alexander invited Christine to his cattle station in the outback, posing as his fiancee, it suited her to agree-until she fell in love with him, and then learned that he was planning to marry another girl.

just what was Burton playing at?'
