Book Description

August 1, 2008
Something special happens when women get together and talk confidences are shared, help and support given, all in the name of sisterhood and friendship. Women are compassionate listeners, knowing intuitively when to offer advice or merely a shoulder to lean on. Gigi Garner captured these intimate moments and compiled them with permission into a book for all women. Contributors include such stars as Naomi Judd, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Shari Belafonte, as well as other women, from a prison warden to an elementary school teacher. Beauty and health tips to advice on careers and relationships, this book covers them all.

About the Author

As the daughter of actor James Garner, life came with some benefits, of course, but it also let Gigi Garner know she d never be content with simply being known as a star s daughter. As a result, she has established herself over the years as a multitalented individual in her own right. It has been a path, she will readily admit, that s been an interesting one indeed. She was born Greta Scott Garner, but everyone has always called me Gigi, she says. Mom wanted it to be my first name, but Dad said it sounded too much like the name a stripper might use! Gigi grew up in Brentwood, California, and attended the film school at the University of Southern California. In the years since, she has been a recording artist in England and a songwriter for Word Records where she wrote three number one songs in 1995. Influenced by one of her father s hit TV detective series, The Rockford Files, Gigi also became a licensed private investigator. It s that career that motivated her to author The Cop Cookbook (Rutledge Hill Press, 1997), a compilation of recipes, rare photos, quizzes and brainteasers, and stories from some the entertainment industry s most popular TV and movie stars. Several years ago, she discovered yet another passion. My mother kept losing her Greek worry beads and so I decided to learn how to make them, explains Gigi. When Gigi s friends saw her jewelry creations, they wanted them, too. She decided to attend jewelry school to learn more about the art, and she is now regarded as one of Hollywood s most innovative jewelry designers. Her clientele includes such notables as Penelope Cruz, Orlando Bloom, Halle Berry, and Sandra Bullock, and her jewelry pieces have appeared on such shows as Desperate Housewives and The O.C. Gigi lives in West Hollywood with her beloved pet therapy dog Angus.

4.0 out of 5 stars Full of practical and frugal tips and amusing anecdotes!, November 4, 2009

Did you know that putting an avocado pit in the middle of freshly-made guacamole keeps the dip from turning brown? Or that a homemade tomato facial can tighten pores and make your face glow? Or that putting some Sweet N' Low in hair dye keeps it from irritating sensitive skin? Or that lemonade flavored Kool-Aid can act as a stain remover? Or that cereal box liners can work great as freezer bags? And that gift-wrapped cereal boxes can make great (frugal!) shirt boxes? Or that some leftovers (including used tea leaves and coffee) can make your garden grow? Etcetera! Etcetera!

Girl Talk, compiled by Gigi Garner and published by Five Star Publications, is a collection of useful tips, confidences, and anecdotes like the ones we women might share with our girlfriends over tea or coffee. It's the kind of book that can be picked up and then easily set aside when the next duty calls - and it's full of both useful and amusing tips.

This would make a great coffee table or waiting room type of book.
