4.0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves this!

1.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT Buy This
despite dozens of attempts we never got this toy to open to our daughter's voice. she got frustrated, we got frustrated and the time it took to keep re-setting it was ridiculous. she tried using simple passwords and saying them in the same "tone" like the directions said but it still never worked. no wonder it's on sale.

My 10 year old daughter got this for Christmas and we returned it to Toys R Us two days later. It would only recognize the password after you said it about 10 times and then it would turn off. It did not let her do anything else just shut itself off!!!
I can't believe Toys R Us sells this piece of junk especially after all these bad reviews. Don't waste your money!!!!!!!!!!!

i got a password Journal kind of like this and i truly loved it but it didnt recognize my voice, my sister tryed it and it opened. Everytime I had to take out the batteries and put them back in so it would open again, i think they should just make it a number password thing instead of voice recognition. i ended up breaking it fromprying it open. haha otherwise this toy was pretty fun

My 8 year old got this toy from Santa. She set the password and it doesn't recognize her voice but recognizes mine. The thing won't stay closed/locked and we can't set the date. The sound on this thing is unbelievable, you can't understand a thing it says except Oops! over and over and over again. Now I have had to explain that Santa is having a problem with them and will get her one as soon as the elves figure out what's wrong. Hope she doesn't hold her breath. Guess I'm returning this piece of JUNK to the store and would HIGHLY recommend NOT TO BUY THIS!!!!

DO NOT BUY THIS TOY. My 9yr daughter received this for Christmas and it was the first thing she wanted to play with, but it has driven her to tears of frustration. Neither her, my wife, or I have been able to set the date using the horrible "voice recognition". We've tried over 100 times and it ALWAYS fails setting the fourth digit of the year.

3.0 out of 5 stars Intruder!!!, December 31, 2005
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Password Journal Gift Set (Toy)
My 8-year old daughter received this for Christmas. She was extremely excited. Our initial impression was positive. It was reasonably well made, and seemed to include enough extras. The impression went downhill once we tried the "voice recognition" features (I use that term loosely). It is an extraordinarily frustrating experience trying to program this item. The room you are in when recording needs to be dead quiet. Your words need to be enunciated to the utmost.

If you fail to properly "say" your password more than twice, you are shouted down as an "intruder". My daughter loves that feature. Pretty creative, actually.
The radio in the pen is pretty lame. The shredder works, but jams easily. Plus, the force you put on the pen to shred leads me to believe the pen won't be around for long.
All in all, an OK product.

My 8 year old daughter wanted this more than anything for her birthday and it was absolutely everything she was hoping for. She loves being able to change the password any time she wants and gets a huge kick out of thinking that she's the only one that can get into it! (it does seem to be little-sister-proof) It even tells her how many "intruders" tried to open the journal. The pen with radio gets a few stations depending on where she's walking in the house - only downside to the radio is that I can't hear what she's listening to unless I'm always checking on her. Shredder on pen is manual and is for tiny pieces of paper only - which seems to be perfect for whatever shredding an 8 year old girl can want to do. There is a way to set the journal to be easier to get into - the more sensitive setting really is very sensitive - we had to reset the password several times when it wouldn't recognize her password - but problem resolved when set to less sensitive. (and easier for Mom to get into without setting off the intruder alert....)

2.0 out of 5 stars Password Journal Gift Set-Yikes!!!, December 29, 2005

My 7 year old daughter received this set as a gift from her aunt and uncle for Christmas. Of course, she misplaced the instructions and they are no where to be found on Radica Games' website. Anyway, we couldn't get the stupid thing to record her password and then we found out that if you hold the button long enough, it will open on its own. Wow, what privacy!. Anyway, through playing around with the thing, I finally figured out how to do the password. You have to have the journal open as well as the battery compartment. Hit the reset button in the battery compartment. The girl will ask "Please enter your password", say your password. Then she'll ask "Please repeat your password",then repeat your password. Finally she will say "Password Recorded". The next area I'm confused about because she says,"Would you like to set the date and I say "Yes" and then she says "Would you like to set the time" and I say "Yes" again and then she says"Would you like to set an alarm" and I say no. Then she says "Setup complete" When did I set the date and time? I didn't get a chance to! Anybody know how this is done? This thing is certainly not worth the $40 bucks. My daughter is having more fun with the paper shredding pen!

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Disappointment, December 27, 2005

We purchased this for our daughter for Christmas and it has been nothing but a frustration. Getting the password programed took all night. As soon as that was accomplished, the journal stop closing, rendering it useless. I feel this is a total waste of money, but more importantly, very frustrating and disappointing for my 8 year old daughter.

I recently purchased a password journal for my daughter for Christmas, she was able to get it programed once. Then it stoped working and now it doesnt even respond. I am very disappointed in this product as it was only one of three things she truely asked for for Christmas.
