Editorial Reviews

As a pouty Kentucky belle with a penchant for bourbon and dangerous liaisons, Elizabeth Taylor packs power as well as pulchritude in this star-packed remake of the classic melodrama A Free Soul. She plays Jean Latimer, whose father Steve (William Powell in one of his final film roles) is a brilliant yet hard-drinking trial lawyer who has gotten rich defending mobsters and has determined to steer his smart but headstrong daughter away from the darker side. Though the elder Latimer tries his best to intervene, Jean falls hard for one of his shady clients (Fernando Lamas), a path that leads not only to a family rift as well as courtroom fireworks. Gig Young and James Whitmore co-star.

2.0 out of 5 stars THE DVD and Elizabeth Taylor, May 10, 2011
This review is from: The Girl Who Had Everything (DVD)
Of course, this early Elizabeth Taylor movie is good and also the Cast. So I give them 5 Stars.

Picture quality is not bad at all but not perfect.

But please Warner Bros. The DVD and specially the Grand Dame Elizabeth Taylor deservs a much better DVD release with chapter menus, restoration etc, and SUBTITLES FOR DEAF HEARING PEOPLE.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre, July 30, 2003

THE GIRL WHO HAD EVERYTHING is a movie about a lawyer's daughter who falls in love with a gangster defended by her father. That's the whole story and for that reason the film never rises above mediocrity. It is a low budget undertaking but it does feature some good actors.

A very young Elizabeth Taylor has the starring role. William Powell plays the attorney and Fernando Lamas is the hardened criminal who is the object of Taylor's affection.

Director Richard Thorpe has made better movies including IVANHOE and THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN.

Elizabeth Taylor is wonderful in this film. Its good and very romantic. A remake of, " A Free Soul." I love this version.

Its also very sad as well.
I highly recommend it. Great story, and Elizabeth wears some lovley dresses in it.
