Of course, this early Elizabeth Taylor movie is good and also the Cast. So I give them 5 Stars.
Picture quality is not bad at all but not perfect. But please Warner Bros. The DVD and specially the Grand Dame Elizabeth Taylor deservs a much better DVD release with chapter menus, restoration etc, and SUBTITLES FOR DEAF HEARING PEOPLE.

Mediocre,

This review is from: Girl Who Had Everything [VHS] (VHS Tape)
THE GIRL WHO HAD EVERYTHING is a movie about a lawyer's daughter who falls in love with a gangster defended by her father. That's the whole story and for that reason the film never rises above mediocrity. It is a low budget undertaking but it does feature some good actors.A very young Elizabeth Taylor has the starring role. William Powell plays the attorney and Fernando Lamas is the hardened criminal who is the object of Taylor's affection. Director Richard Thorpe has made better movies including IVANHOE and THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN.

This movie is good only for the fashions of that period. Liz really wore some nice outfits. The acting was bland, the storyline ridiculous, and the movies is only about 30 minutes long or so it seemed. The ending came so quickly it was unbelievable. Even my 82 year old mother who usually likes these types of movies fell asleep before it was over. A real bore. And the price was rather high even used.

Utterly Forgettable,
This review is from: The Girl Who Had Everything (DVD)
The Girl Who Had Everything seems to have it all. It features Elizabeth Taylor at the height of her beauty, film favorite William Powell, heartthrob Fernando Lamas, and a story by Adela Rogers St. Johns. However, these elements are not a winning combination and this mediocre story becomes more and more laughable as it goes along. Jean Latimer (Taylor) is the beautiful daughter of a highly respected lawyer (Powell). Although she is being courted by a gentleman who has her father's approval, she cannot bring herself to settle down with him. When she meets ex-thug Victor Raimondi (Lamas), her aversion to marital bliss melts away, much to her father's chagrin. This tale is told in the most melodramatic way complete with intense music right out of a soap opera which makes even the mildest moments seem like major disasters. The actors try very hard to seem genuine, but with this kind of material, it is impossible to succeed. The ending is plain laughable, partly because of its predictability and also because of how suddenly it comes, almost as if the film makers just gave up and tacked on an ending. This is not an example of a film that is so bad that it becomes good because it at least promotes laughter. There are a few of those moments, but they do not come frequently enough to be worth watching. Skip this one. |
