not quite a romance......,
By kittycat "KC" (USA) - See all my reviews

although well written, "The Girl Who Invented Romance" can get boring. Kelly Williams is a sixteen year old junior who has never had a date, much less a boyfriend. She constantly daydreams about finally meeting that one special guy. She decides to turn her daydream into a romance board game, in which the goal is to get to happily ever after. What begins as a game that would be more acurately titled "A Fairy Tale Romance" turns into a real life romance situation as Kelly witnesses her brother and his girlfriend (the perfect couple) break up, realizes that her parents marraige (the most romantic one on earth) may not be that rock solid, and begins to fall for the least expected guy ever. The book is good, but I felt that too much of it was simply daydreams and fluff, and not enough of a solid plot.

Very cute!,

Though it was hard to really get into, this was a really cute book. The characters were all diverse and enjoyable, the plots and issues flowed together really well, and the humor will have you giggling on every page.
I like how nothing ended up how it started. Towards the beginning, there was a lot of foreshadowing when it came to the relationship of certain characters, but it switches up and for that, I was very thankful. There isn't too much to the plot, so you end up depending on the characters for substance, which is fortunately given. The game is hard to imagine, hard to picture in your head. Luckily for me, the copy I got from the library had the actual game attached the back. It's an awesome visual and helps you appreciate the story a lot more, so try to get a hold of that if you plan on reading! Overall, it was very adorable. Well written and humorous, this book will have you planning your very own party- complete with snacks and the romance game. If I could've taken the game out of the book, I probably would've gathered some friends and played myself. I definitely recommend checking it out!

PERIOD 7 MRS. SULLIVAN,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Girl Who Invented Romance (Paperback)
Have you ever wished you could have the perfect date? Well in the book "The Girl Who Invented Romance" by Caroline Cooney thats what the main character wished. This books genre is fiction. In the story the main character Kelly Williams, wished for just that, the perfect date and the most perfect boyfriend. Kelly is a sixteen year old girl who has never had a boyfriend let alone a date.Kelly is very outspoken and dramatic. In the book Kelly invents a game called "Romance". In the game you can go on the perfect date and be set up with your perfect match. But when match is someone Kelly least expected him to be she becomes very confused and has trouble finding out what romance really means. I would recomend this book because Kelly goes through alot thihgs normal girls do and its a very interesting book.

The Girl Who Invented Romance Review,
This review is from: The Girl Who Invented Romance (Library Binding)
In the Girl Who Invented Romance, by Caroline B. Cooney, the main character, Kelly, invented a game of romance for a class assignment. The assignment was to show the way boys and girls differed and were similar, but Kelly's project, after many failed attempts, rose and showed the many sides of romance, and the different views from different genders. Kelly aches for real romance, and her game just might bring that to her. Eith the help of her brother, Parker, her best friend, Faith, and the students in her class, including the evil Wendy and the gorgeous basketball star,Will, Kelly goes on and adventure searching for love and romance, just what she needs when her whole world falls apart. Could love really be just one toss of the dice?
I sincerely enjoyed reading The Girl Who Invented Romance. Cooney really expressed herself as a lonely sixteen-year-old longing for love. One would almost think that Cooney had been in a situation like this before. I agreed wholeheartedly with the story. To me, the moral was that romance can easily be mistaken for love, but through talking and support true love will shine through. I thought the whole plot was genuinely hilarious and well thought. The story of love and laughter is what any teenage girl would desire. The idea of making a board game to win Happily Ever After is creative and realistic, after all what else would anyone want? I would definitely reccomend this book to anyone who is looking for love and laughter. If you are like me and can't get enough of romance and just can't seem to find your "knight in shining armor" this book will be the story of your life. The way it related to my life, made it feel as if it was written for me. Deeply sincere this story shows what every girl feels and reports it without your knowledge. I felt it to be intriguing until the last page.

Romance is neat but Love is sweet,
This review is from: Girl Who Invented Romance Pb (Teens) (Paperback)
Kelly is such a relatable character. With her plain features and ordinary style she is overlooked by most guys, but when she realizes she truly needs a boyfriend she takes unique approaches to satisfying her need. I loved how Will was not Mr. Perfect but they could share their feelings with each other and have a cute high school fling. The possiblity that they're relationship could go beyond that is not to unbelievable. They could learn that they are just what each other need. Will could be her support , listener, security, and her first love. Kelly could be a stable person in his life , a comfort, and most importantly someone to make him realize there is more to like to basketball and himself. The book frequently preaches the concept romancing your lover is nothing without love.
