4.0 out of 5 stars Hoagy and Lulu back in fine form., October 16, 1997
By A Customer
The expensively attired, and acerbic ghostwriter/detective is back with his faithful pooch Lulu, who always does her part to help Hoagy "take a bite out of crime." You don't need to be a fan of mysteries to enjoy this highly entertaining series of books by Mr. Handler. The usual cast of characters are all here. At least the ones who manage to stay alive. Not an easy thing around Stuart Hoag. People tend to drop like flies around him, often making him a prime suspect Not to fear. While sympathetic, and despicable alike fall as if from plague, Mr. Hoag patiently puts the pieces together. In this novel, Handler's protagonist is settled happily with his long time love and ex-wife Merilee Nash but he is still unable to recapture the magic of his first novel, nor live down the shame of his second failed one. Ghostwriting as usual brings home the bacon, and the secrets and best left buried passions of his subjects are the catalyst for murder and mayhem. The only problem with this series

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun read - close to perfection, March 31, 2000
By A Customer
I love all of David Handler's books. . . the Hoagy series, especially. This book is as enjoyable as all of the others in the series. It's a little less suspenseful - you can pretty much figure out the murderer early on - but the twists and turns keep you on an interestingly winding trail to the conclusion. I recommend this and every other David Handler book out there. I wish he'd write MORE MORE MORE!

5.0 out of 5 stars The most entertaining American mystery series., June 18, 1998

Handler never ceases to dissappoint. This is another installment featuring the sauve yet sarcastic/observant articulate Stuart Hoag. It includes the usual pop culture iconoclasticism (and I can't get enough of that) and the cast of characters that remind me of the Thin Man movies updated to the 1990's.
