Scotty Singleton is living the dream life. The highschool senior stud has a more than steady girlfriend, a nice car, the no. 1 spot on the football team and an acceptance to Princeton University. He absolutely loves hsi grilfriend Lora and even can stand her stuck up family. But one Friday, Lora goes to Europe with her family and is not there to cheer Scottty on. Not going to the regular school dance, Scotty decides to just go home and watch a video. He sees a girl sitting next to his car with a bike who claims to have a flat tire. He offers her a ride, and out of the blue in the car, her asks her to go out to eat with him. The two have a good time, and then out of teh blue again, asks her out for the next night. After the next day, thinking he has had a fun fling, Scotty settles down and deciedes to wait for Lora. But his new friend, Shannon isn't ready to let him go, and she'll stop at nothing for him to be hers and hers alone.

No matter what the cost.

THE GIRLFRIEND is one of those books that has everything: football, drama, love deception, and enough delicious suspense that I gobbled it in one long, delicious gulp. Stines clever yarn creates for us a protagonist. Scotty is skillfully developed and utterly convincing and believable. This is a thriller that actually thrills, and will give you chill and make you wonder who you choose to grow close to in high school.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kara's thoughts on The Girlfriend, November 22, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Girlfriend (Point Horror Series) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Girlfriend is a book about a boy in highschool named Scotty. He has a girlfriend, Lora, that he really likes, but when she goes away on vacation for a week he goes out with a new girl, Shannon. He doesn't even like her he just thought she was hott. When Lora came back Scotty expected Shannon to understand, but when he trys to tell her she gets mad and does things to him like: kill his snake, break his fingers, set his car on fire, and kill Lora's cat. Scotty feels bad lieing to Lora and everyone and wants to tell someone, but can't. He is really afraid and can't be himself.
I thought this book was great and I encourage everyone to read it. It can be a little nasty (when the snake is cut in half), but other than that it is awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT AN EVIL GIRL!, July 22, 2003

The Girlfriend is a fast-paced story about a girl who will do anything to get the love of her life-ANYTHING!
Scotty is the perfect student and has the perfect rich girlfriend. When she goes to Europe on a one-week vacation he meets a girl and takes advantage of the moment. What his girlfriend don't know won't hurt right?
The story is fun to read and it's creepy all the way. R.L. Stine gives us to read about an evil girl who would die for the boy of her dreams! A great book!

The book "The Girlfriend" is a thriller about a girl who will do anything to have the high-school quarterback, Scotty. Scotty and his girlfriend Lora are the perfect couple. But, when Lora goes away on a 1 week vacation to Paris, Scotty mingles with a hot girl he's never seen before. He asks the girl(her name is Shannon) to go get a burger with him, and soon, the peaceful date turns into a wild make-out session. Soon after, when Lora returns from her trip, Scotty tries to make it clear to Shannon that it was just a fling. She will not take no for an answer. She begins to stalk Scotty, doing anything to have him as her man. She does terrible things like:Slicing his snake in half, burning his car, killing Lora's cat, crashing parties, and threatening to tell Lora about their rendevous. This book was ok. If Shannon were to be a little more dangerous, like, maybe, kidnap Lora or something, it would be better.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Girlfriend, June 16, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Girlfriend (Point Horror Series) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ever wanted to read a book with suspense and strange things happening on every turn? The book I read was the Girlfriend by R.L Stine. It is everything that I just said in the beggining. Its about a boy with the perfect girlfriend and perfect life. But everything changes when he goes out on one date with a girl he doesn't even know. After that date the boy thought it was going to be over and nothing else was going to happen, but thats not the strange girls plan. She then starts killing the boys things in order to get him back. But eventually she doesn't get him, but only gets him into lots of trouble with his real girlfriend.
I like this book because its full of suspense. It was a twist on every turn. It was easy to connect to the characters because I understood what the said throughout the book. I also liked that there were many surprises. I also thought that there was nokthing bad about this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book, October 8, 2000
By A Customer
This is the type of book you can not put down once you started reading it. I never really liked reading books but this book changed that. If you like the type of books that don't have to many characters but still is a interesting story this is the book for you. The ending in this however was not as good as I thought it would be but still really good. This book has adventure, mystery, and love mixed into one story. Once you are done reading this book you will think to yourself I sure do hope I never get a girlfriend like that!.

3.0 out of 5 stars An O.K. book but a very stupid ending., September 13, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Girlfriend (Point Horror Series) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is not the kind of book that you'd want to read again and again. I think the whole book was pretty fine, but the ending was really stupid! One more comment, it wasn't scary at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Girlfriend from hell, August 5, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Girlfriend (Point Horror Series) (Mass Market Paperback)
I didn't think there was much mystry to this book, yet for some reason I couldn't put it down. Maybe because of the , crazy, psychotic Shannon, or maybe because I just wanted to see Lora die, she was such a head wrecker. I'm not going to say if she dies or not, that will only ruin the book. Overall, there is hardly any "scream scenes" but it is a good read, but I expected better
