Matthew Sweet may be considered a one-hit-wonder, but he also did some great stuff outside of this song. This just happened to be what Sweet was all about, minus the more promiscuous items, it was also the height of his talent. I mean, that guitar solo still holds to the best of them, and I don't think was surpassed in modern guitar solos until John Mayer came along.
The song is simple, but revolutionary, and aside from all that, it's just a great pop rock song that still holds up after 20-odd years. So if you want a quality flashback, then head back to the early 90s and this pop rock/power pop classic. |
