5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Stop Laughing
I picked up this book because the cover was so eyecatching. I read the back cover and the first page and I crossed my fingers hoping it would be a winner. It definitely was. Cheryl, Linda, Gina, Peter and Shirley - definitely kept me laughing. You know we've all had evil thoughts about striking back at people in order to get even but through (Patrick)- thank you Patrick!)...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not For Everyone!
I have several girlfriends who enjoy the same type of books that I like. So when they suggested Girlfriends by Patrick Sanchez, I figured it was a must read and due to all of their "glowing" comments I was excited about reading this one. Well, Girlfriends by Patrick Sanchez didn't quite live up to the hype for this reader. It was a comical and witty story...

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprise, surprise,sur-prised, August 12, 2001
This review is from: Girlfriends (Mass Market Paperback)
Girlfriends certainly caught me off guard. Remember the old saying don't judge a book by it's cover. Well it's true, I was so certain this was a story of three African American sistahs with plenty of drama going on. Especially being a big fan of African American books.

Our bookclub voted to change the scheduled book for this one. Were we ever surprised. Gina, Cheryl , Linda, Peter , and Shirley gave us an insight of there lives and they were something else.Characters we will remember for awhile. This was such a humorous story at times .I was in stitches from laughing so hard.. I will admit a book I probably would not have read had it not been for the cover. It was not a fast read ,but one I enjoyed reading. What a pleasant surprise. Surprise , surprise , surprised.

You got me Mr.Sanchez !

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read, October 29, 2001
By
This review is from: Girlfriends (Mass Market Paperback)
Patrick Sanchez debut novel "Girlfriends" is a good read. Girlfriends tells the story of Gina, Cheryl, & Linda and their life situations.

Gina is looking for Mr. Right, but is always finding Mr. Wrong, has a job she despises, and a mother (Shirley) who will have you laughing through the whole book.

Cheryl is dating Gina's ex...a guy who is not ready to make a committment, yet wants to keep Cheryl hangin' on. She turns to the personals for a little attention. She meets a fine specimen of a man.....but does he really want her?

Linda is Gina's co-worker and she is also....of course looking for love. Has she found Ms. Right in her customer at the bank where she works?

Patrick Sanchez tells a very funny and witty story about these three women and their search for happiness. I look forward to more from Mr. Sanchez in the future. Continued success & blessings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh-out-loud funny, December 13, 2001

This book is truly hysterical. I read it in a few days and could not stop laughing, even on the metro, in the gym, etc. It is especially funny for those of us who grew up and/or live in the DC metro area, and can picture the bars and restaurants used as settings in the book. I met Patrick Sanchez at one of his readings and he is as witty and humorous as his characters. If you want a classic, read Hamlet. If you want to laugh, pick up Girlfriends!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not For Everyone!, October 20, 2001
This review is from: Girlfriends (Mass Market Paperback)
I have several girlfriends who enjoy the same type of books that I like. So when they suggested Girlfriends by Patrick Sanchez, I figured it was a must read and due to all of their "glowing" comments I was excited about reading this one. Well, Girlfriends by Patrick Sanchez didn't quite live up to the hype for this reader. It was a comical and witty story about three 20-something friends looking for the perfect job, the perfect apartment and the perfect man or woman. The reader lived vicariously via Gina(the white girl), Cheryl(the black girl) and Linda(the lesbian member of the trio) as they each tried to find herself via their latest escapade. Some of the scenes were downright hilarious and the opening even drew me into the story. However, the more I read I wondered where was the plot development; I felt like I was reading a disjointed story from a male's perspective...a male who didn't really have a handle on the female psyche. Overall, if you want a few laughs and have a few moments to spare Girlfriend is a light and entertaining read for a day when you have nothing else to do or read. Actually its not a bad book, it just didn't live up to the hype.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read This Book!, September 20, 2001

You don't want to miss this amazing book! It is one of the best I've read in a long time. With so many books about twenty or thirtysomethings and single women struggling with relationships this one really stands out. I couldn't put the book down and was so sorry when it ended. Some of the antics of these charachters had me laughing so hard I had a hard time reading the next line. I hope to see much more from this talented author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hollywood romanticized dating image hilariously deflated!, September 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Girlfriends (Mass Market Paperback)
Hurrah for our hero, author Patrick Sanchez, who single handedly popped the Hollywood romanticized dating image with his witty, acerbic quill! How many of us are tired of seeing sappy love stories where everyone meets the perfect "Mr. or Ms. Right?" Finally, a book comes along that really tells the unsightly, yet hysterically funny, truth.

We've all been through dating fiascos just like many of the characters in "Girlfriends". That's the beauty of this book! It allows you to laugh at their dating escapades as well as your own stories. What better way to heal from your "wounds" and get back out into the dating jungle than with laughter! Girlfriends" provides that much needed medicine in extra strength doses! I highly recommend reading "Girlfriends"!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real DC, September 1, 2001
This review is from: Girlfriends (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was very refreshing. It is great to be able to get physically involed in a novel because it is about my home. I was able to actually relate to the bars, shops, streets and the "real" life that actually took place in this book. Patrick actually brings the real DC out of the people and puts it on paper. The relationships between the characters reminds me so much of my circle of friends. I think Gina is a reminder that if we don't whatch ourselves, we too can become that jaded. I can't wait to see what Patrick can think of next.
