This review is from: The Girlhood Diary of Wanda Gag, 1908-1909: Portrait of a Young Artist (Diaries, Letters, and Memoirs) (Hardcover)
Wanda Gaag inherited an overpowering "need to draw" from her father. She had natural talent. Her brother Henry inherited a different strain that made him a creativeletter designer. Wanda's girlhood diary is frank and heart wrenching. I clss it as a "must reafd". It makes the reader want to try to follow Wanda's later devlopment, and I was pleased to note that the boo for children A Thousand Cts (sic) that she wrote and illustrated, was puclished with Henry's lettering for text, because she could fid no commercial foint that enhanced the charm of the book. In later life, she shortened gher name to Gag because everybody thought that was the way to pronounce it.
