Grade 6 Up-This companion to The Girls' Book of Friendship (2001) and The Girls' Book of Wisdom (1999, both Little, Brown) deals with finding true love and keeping it strong. The quotes come from both male and female celebrities and dignitaries, while the stories are by unknown writers. Good, interesting "Fascinating Facts" end each chapter. Readers will enjoy the sage advice and sigh at the bliss recounted as they are guided through all stages of love, from the first stirrings of a crush to a breakup, and they will return to these pages when they are looking for inspiration or comfort. Although nothing new is presented, this well-put-together collection would make a nice pick-me-up.

More About the Author

Hi!

Here's a little background on my books.

The first one was The Girls' Guide to Life, published in 1997 and now in its second edition (2005). I love this book because it helps girls develop strong self-esteem, fight sexism in the media, and stand up for themselves in general. When I wrote it, there was a real lack of books to help girls in these areas, and I loved being able to provide that kind of book.

I've also done a series of small books for girls--most notably The Girls' Book of Wisdom--a bunch of cool quotations I put together especially for girls. The other books are The Girls' Book of Friendship (practical advice on making and keeping pals), The Girls' Book of Success and The Girls' Book of Love.

They've won awards and been translated for distribution internationally. Hallmark did a Gold Crown (hard cover) edition of The Girls' Book of Friendship. It cracks me up that this book is just as popular with women of all ages as it is with girls..

My favorite moments these days are when I get an e-mail or letter from a girl telling me that she loved one or the other of the books, or just saying hi. There is nothing better!

Catherine Dee's brilliant blend of quotes, poetry, stories, advice and honest questions are a must-read for every girl falling in or out of love. Everyone's heart is different-yet each can be touched by these pages. Just reading this book brought me on a journey through every emotion and love that I've ever felt.


This is the big sister that you always wish you had when it comes to matters of the heart.

Some items in this book made me laugh out loud, others made me nod my head knowingly or sigh. Catherine Dee has succeeded in including the funny, the serious and the sublime in a format that is friendly to women of all ages. It will remind the adults among us of many past and present events in our lives and conclusions we've reached, like the fact that when I put applesauce down the shirt of my camp counselor at the age of ten, it didn't get him to like me more. As for the young women out there - Enjoy this book full of love, laughter and wisdom. Women everywhere: Stick it in your purse to read while you're waiting for the bus, the board meeting or for the guy to bring back the popcorn.

This is a great, fun book for any teenage girl to flip through. Figuring out the world of dating and relationships is a constant puzzle, so it helps to have some words of reality and experience to turn to. The celebrity quotes are a big plus, as it's always inspiring to hear from people who have a large impact on today's teen.
